Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Mosher.
Hi Shannon, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Inner Acceptance Therapy is a behavioral health outpatient private practice that offers counseling and therapy services to individuals, families, and couples. We hand-select our therapists and they undergo significant training in order to provide the best clinical service for our clients. What sets us apart from others is our therapists themselves, and our “peer review” meetings that we hold on a weekly basis. This is where all brains come together and work on building or revising treatment plans for our clients if necessary. This means that our clients have a collective team working behind the scenes to ensure their treatment is clinically effective and yields positive results in their life.
I started Inner Acceptance Therapy with the dream of helping clinicians to learn how to run their own businesses and become their own private practice owner one day. I realized that therapists have been taught how to be great therapists, but were never taught how to run a successful business or clinic for themselves. We offer business training for our therapists as well so they can also become leaders within their centers and community. I’ve found that by empowering our clinicians with autonomy and leadership opportunities they are more creative and compassionate with their clients and team, shattering the walls of resistance and promoting unity.
I never imagined our company to grow as quickly as it has. I’ve learned that being honest, transparent, and authentic with your team results in them reciprocating the same qualities and bringing their best selves to work daily. I’ve learned to listen to my team and offer them tasks and projects where their skills and passion can shine. I’ve learned that being open to suggestions and feedback and actually incorporating and testing out ideas with them has made a huge impact on them feeling by adding value and strengthening their sense of pride and purpose in the organization.
At the end of the day, it boils down to taking care of yourself and taking care of your people. How do you do that? Be your true self. Be willing to listen. Support their decisions. Be transparent and honest. Be interested in their passions personally and professionally. And if they feel they can count on you, you can count on them.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Let’s say it was discouraging at the very start. The week in which Inner Acceptance Therapy was launched, was the same week the Mayor closed the city due to COVID restrictions. This was a huge struggle as many people were in need of in-person therapy, therefore transitioning to telehealth was quite an adjustment for many clients. Luckily, telehealth is just as effective as in-person treatment and the transition was more seamless than expected. We have found that many clients enjoy telehealth services because it is convenient and being at home for many was a comfort.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Inner Acceptance Therapy?
Inner Acceptance started as a self-help book that I had written during the pandemic to help people discover simple solutions that would help them to stop fighting with life and find inner acceptance from within so their life can transform externally as well. After much deliberation with my team, we chose Inner Acceptance Therapy as our company name because it harnesses everything that we want to help our clients accomplish in therapy. We decided that our logo needed to encompass a message of safety and inner synchrony to highlight balance and peace in life; therefore we have the dove in flight with the wings intertwined in the middle showing connection. We want people to spread their wings and fly in life, so our logo helps deliver that message.
Our organization exists to empower people to become the best versions of themselves through our counseling services. Our vision is to celebrate significant, resilient, and fulfilled lives by providing a safe space that inspires a sense of connection, inner acceptance, and positive change. Our caring and compassionate therapists are passionate about helping our clients to make meaningful and rich changes in their lives. In addition to serving clients and their families, we also partner with nonprofits and other organizations to offer resources for our community to help make a positive impact around the mental health space. So many families have been negatively impacted in various ways, especially in the past few years. We highly regard our clients and help them to find ways to process their hardships and find healing. We help our clients regain their power and access resilience that naturally improves their world and society as a whole.
We specialize in clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, bipolar and/or mood disorders, personality disorders, trauma, maternal mental health, and more. Our therapists are trained in modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, Hypnotherapy, Internal Family Systems and more.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
What is most important to us is the rapport and relationships we build with our clients. Offering a judgment-free space where clients can be their true selves is crucial to the effectiveness of their treatment and experience. We want our clients to feel loved and accepted from the moment they begin therapy and throughout their entire experience. In addition to offering caring and compassionate therapy, we believe in staying on top of the latest treatment modalities as clients are not a “one size fits all” situation. Therefore we are equipped with a multitude of treatment options that will fit our clients’ unique needs.
