Today we’d like to introduce you to Ke’lan Johnson. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Ke’lan Johnson better known as TazDaRealist, a Houston based rapper who began a career in the industry in 2011. While the road to success is never easy, Taz has proven to be built to last. A resume that not only includes an opening for Houston’s own, J-Dawg; Taz has also opened up for artists such as Blueface, Chris Sails, KenTheMan, Rick Ross, J Stash, Peso Peso & more. While delivering bar for bar punchlines, Taz brings a special energy to each song with influences such as Nipsey Hussle, make no mistake about if Taz knows how to do it independently. Grinding without a manager, the artist has acquired features from such as Istarrah, Jimmie Montana, FMG Lace, Nessacary, Trilly Polk Etc who are well known overseas. Motivated by a younger brother and sister, Taz continues to grind and show through music, that there is no such thing as impossible. TazDaRealist has three albums released to date. Those albums are “Murk Season”, “Social Disruption”, “Big Dawg Talk” and his latest project “T4” which stands for Trials Tribulations Transitions & Transactions. They can be found on all platforms and prove to be an introspective look into who Taz really is.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s never an easy road, having to deal with many struggles from non-supportive friends, janky promoters, managers that were more focused on their brand than my music, but every situation I faced taught me a valuable lesson and also gave me the knowledge to know what I will deal with and what I won’t. So to me, everything is a learning process cause without those struggles I wouldn’t appreciate all the blessings I receive today!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an independent music rap artist from Houston. I am also a partner of 1 of the livest live podcast shows, Teddi Tuesday. I promote music for myself and other independent artists I’m familiar with. I have performed at numerous events & venues locally and across several states. I have opened for main streamed artists such as KenTheMan, Bluface, J Stash, Rick Ross, Nle Choppa, etc. I have my own brand NuBreedGent of 10 plus years. I’m 33 and I have been doing music for the last 11 years. What sets me apart from others is that I’m a trans male artist & even tho I’ve been in the game for 11 years. The last 3 years of my music career are where I started to get the attention that I deserve & now that I am known as a trans male artist people are starting to tune in.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
My most important lesson has been to learn everything in the business. Make sure you make genuine connections and make sure you are networking with the room. Always support your DJs and producers and give support to the ones who help push & promote your music.
