Exploring Life & Business with Navare Carter of Intuitive

Today we’d like to introduce you to Navare Carter.

Hi Navare, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
So, I began my journey into design back in 2010. I attended the University of the District of Columbia where I received my AAS degree in graphic design. It was the 2nd semester of my Freshman year when I discovered that I wanted to be an entrepreneur. Quick story, I had a professor who made us create a flyer for a local jazz bar in DC as a final. The catch was, that he didn’t tell the class that it was a real project for that bar. On the day the final was due, we printed our flyers on matte boards and our professor met us at the bar after class. I was underage to drink at the time so I decided to leave early in the night. I found out the next day the owner showed up after I left and he chose my design. I wasn’t there to sell it to him, so I lost out on my first real prospect. From that day forward, something sparked in me. I branded myself while I was still in college and began freelancing, and making an income while I was still in school.

After I graduated, I was accepted into the Corcoran College of Art + Design. I attended the school for 1 semester before dropping out. When I dropped out of college, almost everybody who was supportive of me didn’t anymore. They told me I was making the biggest mistake of my life. It hurt for me to hear it, but I knew they were wrong and I was going to prove it to them.

For the next 5 years, I continued climbing the career ladder in the design field from one job to the next, while continuing to freelance on the side. Over time, I began to take my freelancing more seriously and invested in my LLC for business. In 2015, I decided to quit my job and pursue freelancing full-time. I still didn’t fully understand the business of design so it was quite a struggle for the next few years.

As the industry changed due to technology, I self-taught myself web design through YouTube. I struggled with selling and marketing due to my being an introvert at the time. After attracting bad clients over time, I got a mentor, invest in webinars, and became an avid reader. I soon learned how to charge more, how to find my ideal client, how to sell, the business of design, and brand strategy.

In 2017, I won graphic designer of the year in the DMV (DC, MD, VA) at the Titan Arts Awards, as well as the Music & Movie Awards. I repeated the same success in 2018 and joined the BNI networking group, in which my notoriety for my business increased, as well as my sales. From there I began teaching branding through monthly presentations and rebranded my company for the next level of success I wished to achieve.

In 2021, I finally made the move to Houston, TX which was a milestone goal of mine. I’m working towards increasing my presence here, in my community, and transforming the lives of as many entrepreneurs as I can. This is my journey so far to this current moment in becoming a Brand Therapist.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all, there was no profound content online or examples of how to build a successful brand consultancy when I first started. The biggest challenge was overcoming myself in order to become the man I am today. I had to overcome my lack of self-confidence, underselling my services, how to create a business model that produces cash flow, and create a system within my business.

When I overcame these things, I realized that a lot of entrepreneurs struggle with this as well. So, I began to add solutions to my services to better communicate and serve my ideal clients.

The other struggle was just living situations. I put it all on the line in the beginning which forced me to endure unstable living situations for months before things worked out for me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Intuitive is an online brand consultancy that specializes in helping brands become unstuck, by guiding them into properly communicating their brands with clarity, so that they can attract their ideal clients.

We specialize in three services; brand strategy, brand identity design, and web design.

I’m known for being a “Brand Therapist.” My gifting is in discovering the root cause of the problem that’s actually stopping you from achieving your goals within your brand through therapeutic like, strategic sessions. We then deliver visual communication solutions such as logos and web design if necessary for you.

I’m most proud of my ability to understand complex business and communication problems, and simplify the issue into fundamental solutions with clarity that a 5-year old would be able to understand.

I want readers to know that if they’re feeling stuck in their business and they’re struggling to build or grow their brand, book a Discovery Call with us today.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
A lot of people don’t know that I’m a college dropout and a lot of my web design and strategy skills are self-taught.
