Today we’d like to introduce you to Romulo Tim Cisneros.
Hi Romulo Tim, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Like many, I came to Houston for university, grew to love the city/people and ended up living, working, and raising a family and now, am pivoting to a new reality in meeting the opportunities of this new era. I opened my architecture studio in 1991 and have been designing projects throughout Texas, and numerous states, and am now transitioning to this generation of new technologies that will provide avenues to new, broader challenges and endeavors. The COVID backdrop has caused many to reassess their priorities, beliefs and objectives about living and I have, in the context of wanting to continue to live as a designer, made the decisions needed to reassert my capabilities.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course not! You survive the failures by focusing on what you desire. The unfortunate decisions made that have projects fall short of potential, the clients who lose faith in the vision, the cheapness of the marketplace… there are many “lost opportunities”. But, one cannot lose faith in the effort, the relentlessness of the desire to create something special for the client. My philosophy has always been to create something that is individual to the client. A true integration of site, client and design approach will always result in a unique result. Projects, even done by the same person, should never appear by the same hand.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Cisneros Design Studio?
When we meet our potential clients, we are interviewing them to see if they are willing to embark with our firm on a voyage of design discovery to determine the look, feel and visual of the project. The final design is unknown at the beginning, but for the slow emergence of an idea that we integrate with nature, the site, the sun and the views. The experience of designing together, from an idea to reality, has resulted in us repeatedly creating projects for some families and clients for over thirty years.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
The easiest marketing is to do a good job at servicing your current clients. Professionally, sincere honestly and making sure their priorities are your priorities.
