Hi Tawanna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a born and raised Houstonian. Marching her way through her fourth year as a small business owner. Mrs Houston’s Avon is a personal care company sponsored by a multinational beauty company which has helped me to visualize my purpose and accomplish goals and opportunities I never knew could come to fruition. I started my journey as a new mom of three in need of financial income to support my family. I fell in love with my career the day I started. Not only did it provide the financial freedom I Seemed plus flexibility, the new connections and experiences along the way has been astonishing. Four years later I’m now a national leader of success in my society traveling places I never knew my company would open doors for me to visit. I am showered with remarkable experiences always pushing, motivating, and molding me as I continue to develop and embark on this self-empowering journey as a mom-entrepreneur. Continuously gaining tremendous growth professionally and personally. As a first-time generation entrepreneur and college student I’m so glad I decided to switch my college major from nursing (because I’ve always been a person who cares for others) to business management. It was then when I found out “if you do something you love, you’ll never work a day in your life”. I feel like on the day of my graduation I will make many proud and my children will see me as their true “she-ro” (female superhero).
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Since the global pandemic, There were indeed some discouraging times especially with me being only two years in. Unfortunately, I experienced educational setbacks due to financial limitations. My work hours had reduced tremendously and honestly trying to maintain and balance being in school and doing my best to provide my family’s financial needs had been overwhelming to say the less; but this Business management student stayed committed and hungry for success and helping her community to have access to needed essentials and resources through the help of my local small business by all means. Ultimately, still chugging like the little engine who thought (s)he could.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I have learned along my journey has been perseverance. Through the ups and downs and highs and lows…DO NOT GIVE UP! Not only are you counting on you, but so are others all around the world. Continue to be that old-fashioned candle street lamp that refuses to be blown out. Lighting the pathways for others to see their pathway to success.
