Life & Work with Nicholas Gil

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Gil.

Hi Nicholas, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started in my freshman year of high school. My passion for the arts had always been there but I hadn’t had the funds to achieve my goals. I was determined to make something of myself and to show the world what I had to offer. My plan was to make music. I decided to make friends with people who already made music and learn all that I could. I spent all of my free time looking at videos of interviews and watching the artist I looked up to in their element. I had taken what I learned from my friends and I written songs every day going over lyrics in my head every moment of the day taking what I’ve seen down the streets and in my everyday life and turning it into song. I went to studios and met more people the more places I went. My music has taken me to some incredible places and created wonderful experiences. Along the way, I decided I need to also draw the album art and make the videos as well so I’ve been endeavoring to make that happen. Learning these different skills has opened my eyes to how valuable a team is and to what it takes to truly make a masterpiece.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a real struggle financially, mentally and physically. The problems arise from ideas I have the idea itself isn’t the problem but the funds it takes to execute that idea in an incredible Manor seems to be the struggle. The mental hurdles that I have to go over to come up with the ideas and the mental fortitude I have to exhibit in order to face everyone Who doubts me takes a toll on my mind. The other mental struggle has been The tedious tasks that need to be accomplished to make anything great. Physically I have to endure work and other labor to make my dreams come true.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am most proud of my music. I’m also proud of my photography but not as much. And I’m a work in progress on my digital art and sketches and pencil drawings. What sets my music apart is the attention to detail in the lyrics. My music is always improving though I’m improving my cadence when I rhyme. I’m also working on singing so then maybe I can be better at using my vocals in my music to a higher degree. My photography is a work in progress but I’m still proud of it because my clients are happy with it. I’m proud of my artwork because My art has been featured in the rodeo since I was like 5 as well as my family is full of artist.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I would say Logic Pro helps Adobe Photoshop and in terms of books, I’ve read rich dad poor dad. YouTube is great for general information. Twitter is great for making connections. Email is where I do most business.

Some notes regarding costs:

  • Adobe Photoshop cost like 10 dollars a month for a Basic program
  • Logic pro was like $200
  • A home studio is anywhere from 1000-10000 dollars depending on how great you make it personally invested like 3k into my own
  • If you go to studio it’s like 50 bucks an hour
