Today we’d like to introduce you to FMG Potts.
Hi FMG, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Reginald Potts. I go by FMG Potts, I am 25 years old & I have always had a love for music, not just hiphop and rap, I love all types of genres from blues to country and of course r&b. I started rapping at the early age of 14, I would take CDs from my dad’s collection of local artists and listen to them from start to finish over and over. From then on I was inspired, I started making my own raps and freestyling to different beats and as I got older, I started going to the studio, shooting small videos in my neighborhood. Now I’m in a place where I know what I want I know the types of sounds I’m going for and my voice has matured and I’m doing things the right way as far as dropping my music and music videos.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There’s always a few bumps in the road but it was never nothing that I couldn’t overcome. Majority of the time my struggles would come from within, like staying encouraged and being consistent. Having a lack of confidence here and there. Because let’s be honest, it’s very easy to get discouraged in the music industry. I had to learn to focus on the bigger picture, let go of perfectionism and just manage my expectations. I set goals for myself and I learned to be more consistent with my craft. It’s all a learning experience and a work in progress.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m extremely versatile with my music, you really never know what to expect from me and that’s what sets me apart from others. First and foremost I am a songwriter, I write everything that I put out and before I even put it out for the world to hear I like to make sure it’s structured and well thought through. Even when I’m in the studio, I know how I want my music to sound. I’m mostly proud of my growth, and it doesn’t stop here, I’m hungry for success and I will be successful.
