Conversations with Amira Vasquez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amira Vasquez.

Hi Amira, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a Modern Abstract Painter and Home Décor Sculptor from Dallas, TX. My art style has morphed over the years and my work is best known for making it work with what I have. I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design from Savannah College of Art and Design Atlanta. However, I discovered the artist within myself at a very young age and art has always been natural to me.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No. Honestly… It has not been a smooth road as an artist. I am the business, I am the marketing team, I am customer service, I am shipping and handling with the purchase of art supplies. I am the tester behind the product, I am the researcher, I am the one putting in labor. I am the one putting in legal authority over my artwork and business, but I enjoy what I do wholeheartedly.

Again no, it has not been a smooth road because I am doing mostly everything by myself financially trying to support my craft, my gift, my talents, and passion all for the sake of Art. But the process of creating just makes me happy. Which is totally worth it, especially if I’m trying to be great in what I do and who I am as a person.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a natural creator and God blessed me with the gift to create. My work is best known for being created with recycled items and turning it into beauty. I believe in giving back by using recycled materials as a part of my artwork and showing respect to the earth my God created. Everything I design and create is constructed with my hands, from scratch, with full attention to detail and love.

The resilience that keeps a flame inside of me is what I am most proud of. Due to the pressures of life and me trying to have my business prosper with little to no clientele and support can be extremely discouraging at times because I could have given up and quit a long time ago. However, that’s just not in my nature and my tomorrow just could be my very day. My strong faith in God and works truly sets me apart from others. “God has not called me to fit in.” – 1 Peter 2:9

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Waking up in a cold room on a Saturday morning, wrapped up in a warm blanket… to the smell of my mother cooking breakfast, with the sound of cartoons playing in the background.
