Check Out Isabel SanMiguel’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Isabel SanMiguel.

Hi Isabel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in a small town in Mexico. I remember I would sit and look through my mom’s photo albums for hours (that was my entertainment) I always loved going back in time through photos. I started buying disposable cameras and would take pictures of everything and everyone and telling them how to pose.

When I had my second child I told my husband to buy me a DSLR camera to take pictures of my girls, after that friends started asking if I would take pictures of them and I enjoyed doing that. It started as a hobby back in 2014, taking pictures of everything I could until my love started growing for weddings and quinceañera events, the adrenaline of the day it’s something else for me. I also do high school Seniors, it’s something I can’t leave behind…I guess because I still want to capture my kid’s milestones. I love knowing that I’m creating memories for others to enjoy years from now. I hope one day they will still remember the person behind that photo.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I feel like it was pretty rough at the beginning because I felt like not everyone was taking me serious, but I’m very stubborn and I have to do everything I set my heart to. I started reaching out to great photographers like Rick Davila from Dallas who took me under his wing and guided me through everything.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I now specialize in shooting Quinceañeras and Weddings, but I can’t leave my high school Seniors behind, I think what sets me apart from others in this area is my style, I really leave a piece of my heart in every shoot and I’m proud to say that everyone I’ve photographed at their event can consider me part of their family, even when the day is over. My people are what motivates me, seeing their emotions and expressions, as well as their smiles, is what leads to me to feeling accomplished.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I say practice, practice, practice, reach out to those you look up to, you will be surprised how approachable some of these folks are. Ask lots of questions and attend workshops, you will learn so much from others in the same field you want to go for. Did I mention practice? lol
