Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaren Halencak.
Hi Aaren, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a wife and mother to three small children with a background in physical therapy. In May of 2020, I had recently given birth to my son and shortly after is when the lockdowns began. I was in need of something to put my energy into that would allow me to help people while also being safe. With yard greetings, I saw an opportunity that would allow me to help people still celebrate those treasured occasions in spite of the pandemic while also allowing me to get out of the house and have a creative outlet. It has been a wonderful, crazy whirlwind. Two years later, my style and designs have evolved, I have learned SO much, and I am still loving every minute!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
As with everything, there have been and still are challenges. The weather being one of the main characters. When I started, there had been no rain in quite some time, much like our current situation. When the ground is dry, I cannot install my greetings properly. I have spent hours in one yard trying to get the stakes into the ground battling flying insects, ants, and sometimes animals! The wind sometimes makes it challenging as well but I have some tricks of the trade I use for all of these struggles that make it a little easier. Another challenge would be finding a way to balance being a full-time mom and a full-time small business owner. I still haven’t found the secret recipe for that, it is a work in progress! I do try to cherish all of the moments that I can!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in highly customized and elegant yard designs. I cater to those who want an individualized and unique experience from start to finish. I pride myself in excellent customer service and making each vision come true! I sneak into clients’ yards and help them celebrate all the special events in their lives. I stay in constant contact from the time clients order to the time I pick the greeting up in their yards. I have some amazing clients who are now more like family as I have helped them celebrate for almost three years in a row. From baby showers, first birthdays, graduations all the way to retirement and celebrations of life, I quite literally help commemorate and make all occasions special in some way, shape or form.
I am also venturing into the marquee letter and number business! This new venture will help add a touch of glam and fun to any party. I plan to offer them separately from my yard greetings or together as a package deal. I am so excited to grow my business and show my children what it is like to work hard and love what you do.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Insert yourself into groups with like-minded business people that are in your industry. Search for the people who are open to teaching and always have an open mind. I am friends with several local yard card companies in the area. We share ideas, client referrals and lend an ear when one another needs some advice. Also, try and be that person for someone else because you can also learn a lot by teaching and lending a hand when needed.
