Community Highlights: Meet Jordyn Billingsley of JoJo In The Mix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordyn Billingsley.

Hi Jordyn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I own a small bakery found in Cypress, Tx. Though being small it sure is mighty. I started my baking journey back in 2016. The sudden urge of wanting to create fun events has always been something I loved doing. My daughter’s first birthday was coming up and I wanted it to be special but could not afford it. That motivated me to get in the kitchen to bake. I had always had an interest in art but never thought of being a baker, the thought was intimidating at the time. Once I started practicing and persistently researching videos for hours. I realized this could be something I could do, I found joy! It was very calm and relaxing for me, almost as if a “get-away” from all the chaos going on in my life. I even had a baker friend from New Orleans, she was amazing at what she did. It inspired me to do cookies once I started baking cakes. If it wasn’t for her, I probably would not be where I am today.

There’s a great world of “cookiers”, yes, we’re called “cookiers”. That help guide you and motivate you to be better! Sharing the love with other bakers is also something I pride myself in. I’m happy where I have gotten in my journey; sharing my tips and tricks with other bakers is very fun for me and we all have our own styles that separate us from each other.

Over the last five years, this cookie journey has brought so much out of me, I mean so much that I’m now pursuing a degree as we speak to take my business to the next level. If it weren’t for learning time management and so much more in this business, I quite honestly don’t know where I would be. I have grown Immensely! It has created a drive in me I’ve never seen before. This bakery isn’t just a bakery to me, it’s a lifestyle and includes many late nights. My family has been a huge support system overall, I could not have done it without them. They get the crazy cookie lady side, not the sweet fun side! They do not even get extras; I know such a bad mommy! I am kidding, they not only get leftovers, but they get to taste the progress.

I can’t say enough about this journey, it truly has my heart and pushes me to be better. I get to learn more about the customers, some even become lifelong customers, creating orders for every special event or moment throughout their lives is such a cool and withering experience to feel. It’s why I continue to keep going, I love hearing the feedback and seeing the smiles. It’s truly a joy. I have such a long journey ahead and I have just gotten started, I can’t wait to see the future of JoJo In The Mix.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting any business will have its obstacles and challenges; I made that my motivation and kept pushing through. Many of those challenges were time management in the mix of being a parent to little ones, staying home to work and school, and also giving my family my undivided attention was not always easy.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a self-taught hobby baker and learned everything by watching videos and countless days of messing up my kitchen to create great flavor and quality. Every cookie or cake I create is my blank canvas. Creating custom sugar cookies, cupcakes, and occasionally cakes or chocolate-covered treats for any special event my client desires is what I love to do!

JoJo In The Mix specializes in cookies. Each bite you take is soft – melts in your mouth – an experience you won’t forget that brings happiness to my customers.

I would say what sets me apart from other bakers is my style of hand-painted cookies, my eye for detail, the amount of experience and techniques I have, but most of all my creativity- when it comes down to creating an order. Each process is well thought out and tested to make the customers’ vision come to life. Do you have an idea in mind? Great, let’s put it on a cookie! Do you want me to come up with some inspiration because it’s easier on you? Perfect I love creative freedom! It is a goal of mine to make sure every customer is satisfied with their order.

I am so proud of the way JoJo In The Mix is thriving, all the while persevering through trial and error JoJo In The Mix offers beautifully crafted and home-baked desserts that are sure to put a smile on your face.
