Meet Erica Mendoza of Erica’s Esthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Mendoza.

Hi Erica, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had an interest for all things makeup and beauty related. Before I got into this industry, I worked in the corporate world for an oil and gas company for several years. I liked it until I didn’t. I realized I wanted to be able to have the freedom of working for myself. When the pandemic started, I realized the job I was at was not where I wanted to be. My husband encouraged me to go school to get my esthetician license and do something I enjoyed. I got lucky and found the Re•vive salon and spa by chance.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it was hard for me leaving a job I was secure and comfortable at. I had been at there for several years, so starting new was hard at first. I remember thinking, “what did I just do?!”. When I found the salon I’m currently at now, I started as a receptionist. A few weeks into school, I got engaged and started planning a wedding shortly after. Adjusting to so many changes in a short amount of time was challenging. Also, learning the ins and outs of the business has been a task in itself. I’ve learned what works for me and what doesn’t by trial and error. It’s hard trying to start off as a solo esthetician and trying to build your business and clientele from the ground up, but I’ve had a great mentor to help me along the way.

As you know, we’re big fans of Erica’s Esthetics. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I’m a licensed esthetician and offer facial, waxing, and beauty services to both men and women. One thing I’m most proud of so far is trying to make a name for myself. Having clients recognize and recommend me out to their friends and family is a big accomplishment.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I found my mentor with the owner of Re•vive salon and spa Myra Salas and started from the bottom up. I soak in as much as I can when I’m around her as well as asking her questions along the way. Also, having a group of awesome ladies and gentlemen has also helped me in some way just by being able to talk their experiences as well. My husband has also been my biggest supporter and cheerleader. If it wasn’t for him, I probably wouldn’t have ever had the courage to make the switch over into this industry.
