Today we’d like to introduce you to Darrin Francois.
Hi Darrin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
At a very early age, I came to the realization of wanting better for myself and breaking generational curses. Coming from a single-parent household. Just knowing that your life could be taken away at any point in time is real and scary. At the age of four, I was diagnosed with epilepsy and it completely changed my life. Due to stress at the age of fifteen, I repeatedly started having seizures my sophomore year in high school and by the time my junior year came my hair was gone leaving bald patch spots on my head. I was devastated and alone and was fighting an endless battle of depression. Once my senior year rolled around, I’d found a better way to cope with my depression and stress by applying to college. I wanted to expand my higher education learning and that brought me a form of solace. My story now is still surreal to me because of all the hard work and dedication I have put in thus far has really paid off. At the age of 18, I left home to attend Tuskegee University on a full-ride scholarship. Even though I had several struggles come about, I never took my eyes off the prices and until this day, I’m still hustling to get to it. I have some special things in the works to further my career and lifestyle and can’t wait to share it with the world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In my opinion, there is no such thing as a smooth road. Life is truly an adventure. There’s always going to be obstacles for you to face but it’s not something you should just let stop you. Some obstacles that helped shape who I am today is my battle with epilepsy, losing my hair due to alopecia, trying to find out who I was as a person and moving to a new state along As well as having my mental health being affected by being the go-to and helping person for everyone not knowing when to take a break.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a jack of all trades. I have been involved with numerous amounts of projects, events and even brands domestically and internationally. These past couple of years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Nike Inc. and the Jordan Brand with being a Jordan Wings Scholar, being able to model their AJ 1s, and worked on special projects with different Nike employees. I specialize in Brand Marketing. The biggest thing that I am known for is back in 2018, I was awarded over 3.4 million dollars in scholarship money and accepted into over 90 different colleges and universities. Also being an experienced brand ambassador with print, media, and acting credits. A professional public speaker with expertise in subjects such as mentoring disadvantaged youth, creative disruption of the prison to the pipeline system, code-switching, and the precarious journey of 1st generation college students. A published co-author of the book College Cash Magnet, an autobiography of how I gained admittance to 91 colleges and received scholarship offers totaling more than 3.4 million dollars.
A graduate of Tuskegee University that majored in Political Science. Demonstrated passion for social impact and cause marketing and a deep commitment to supporting youth from disenfranchised communities. Over five years of experience in public speaking, mentoring youth and collegiate students, a history of cultivating relationships across multiple organizational levels, and working with nonprofit and for-profit entities to advocate, mentor, coach, and support the transition of marginalized youth into adulthood. Also, being able to network with different individuals from different points of life to help you grow financially and mentally. I have always had a proactive and an overachieving mindset from grade school to high school to college. I’m most proud of graduating from undergrad debt free because of my outside scholarship from the Jordan Brand and College Track. What sets me apart from everybody is that I determined my own path from my life struggles and not the next person’s struggles.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The quality that I feel is most important to my success is self-motivated. Being able to keep myself afloat and always wanting the best for myself and not stopping until I make it to the top.
