Community Highlights: Meet Mica Boettcher of Leigh B Creative

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mica Boettcher.

Hi Mica, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My career started as a Graphic Designer managing a creative art department in the heart of Montrose, Houston, TX.

In 2015, I joined South Side Roller Derby, which was motivated by the end of a very toxic relationship.

Immediately, I began cultivating really supportive and amazing friendships and my self-confidence began to be restored…almost like therapy.

This is where I met my future business mentor, Breanna Gunn, aka Gunnz & WhammO (her derby name)!

As my friendship with Breanna developed, I would often reach out to her for advice while I was searching for a new job. She’d review my resume and cover letters to ensure I was putting my best foot forward. Although I loved my job, in a single-parent household, it wasn’t making ends meet. I needed more in order to support my son and me.

Through doing this, she realized that I had skills that could help her grow her blog traffic. She offered me an opportunity to manage the Pinterest account for her blog as well as introduced me to a savvy social media marketer in California. Because of this, I was now earning a little extra income as well as benefiting from an amazing business and social media marketing mentorship.

In a short amount of time, this world of social media marketing began to open up and I was loving the work that I was doing! Six months later, I was able to quit my full-time job and enter into self-employment. It was such an amazing feeling but also terrifying!

Fast forward to nearly six years later…and I am still rockin’ n’ rollin’. My business has continued to grow because of the amazing network I have built and the continuous referrals clients past and present send my way.

When I first started my business, I didn’t know how to describe what I was doing because I had so much to learn; however, I can tell you now that…

Leigh B Creative was born out of my desire to continue working with small businesses and fill in a gap that was needed…beautiful branding, engaging content, and social media marketing strategy.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a perfectly paved path by any means. Everything I know today I have learned by making mistakes, however, without making mistakes there is no growth – which might sound weird but it’s something that I have learned to embrace.

I believe it is the integrity that you carry in those learning moments that really influence whether or not you will be successful. Also, practicing introspection and giving yourself grace in those mistake moments is huge when you are self-employed…or in any job, really.

When trying to build something beyond your experience and comfort zones people are often their biggest roadblock, such as having ‘analysis paralysis’ or ‘imposter syndrome.’ So embracing mistakes all of the sudden makes you a bit of a daredevil. Someone who is more willing to try things, fail, learn, try again, and succeed.

Some of my mistakes include poor time management, lack of strong leadership, sacrificing self-care in order to prioritize work, and a shortfall of integral business management practices (such as contracts, systems, and automation).

Never stop learning!

We’ve been impressed with Leigh B Creative, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
First things first, you might be wondering “what is Social Media Marketing?” Social Media Marketing is the use of social media platforms and websites to promote a product or service.

Interacting with consumers on social media is an important marketing strategy for all businesses. Using social media helps you build brand awareness, increase your customer base, and connect with current customers.

I am a social media marketing strategist, manager, and content creator.

My team and I carefully craft a social media strategy for my clients and from there, we study their brand, design graphics, create video content, and write copy to share strategically across their social media channels. This builds a bridge between their business and desired customers. Marketing is all about building relationships and adding value to your audience.

More often than not business owners are overwhelmed by the idea of social media but they know how important it is. That’s where we come in to offer social media relief! The most common feedback I receive from my clients is that they feel a huge weight is lifted off their shoulders because they can trust me with their brand.

Furthermore, I believe that all womxn have a wonder womxnesque rioter within, capable of miraculous things, who just needs the right nurturing and support to feel safe and free to rise and express themselves. As a social media strategist inspired by the powerful roller derby world, I exist to help you find and nurture your inner rioter, and to take the fear and stress out of bringing your business to life across your social channels.

I am deeply inspired by my hobby, Roller Derby, its culture, and the relationships that have been cultivated over the years I’ve been skating. It’s taught me many lessons, most importantly, inclusivity and acceptance. Something I value deeply.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I’d like to share my favorite quote by Brene Brown: “Grace means that all of your mistakes now serve a purpose instead of serving shame.”
