Hi Shehz, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My experience in this industry is about 13 years.
I started my work profile as a receptionist at a well-known salon in 2009…
When I started, the makeup artist at this location went on maternity leave… so I took that opportunity and learnt professional makeup artistry from Andrea Schutter…
Thereafter, I started working Mon – Fri as a receptionist & took makeup appointments over the weekend at the same salon on a commission basis…
Very soon my work was appreciated & acknowledged and I was busy doing bridal makeup and hair appointments at all the salon locations…
Alongside working, I joined cosmetology school and got my cosmetology license… Thereafter I got a franchise location with the same salon owner, making that salon location a FLAGSHIP store on Hwy 6 Missouri City; Sienna area… this was 2013-14! After a year of having this salon, I didn’t see much growth; so I decided to quit the partnership & went to New York to study makeup from MAC & Makeup Forever academy; And did hair cutting courses with Lara Rainer; Soho New York… shortly I got pregnant so I took a break for a couple of years…
In 2017, after my son Kian was 18 months, I put in Montessori & started a salon suite at image salon Sugarland… and thereafter in 2021, I bought Sheila’s at Katy in Cinco Ranch. And in 2022, I bought a glow salon and spa with my team of partners… so now I manage both these salons with my team of people… I love what we do and am very passionate about my work & my salons…
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The only obstacle I really faced was having a toddler and no family here to help; so me and my very supportive husband had to work through the timing… coz mainly makeup appointments for weddings would be over the weekend and maybe in the evenings (that’s when Montessori was closed).
