Life & Work with Lala Michelle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lala Michelle.

Hi Lala, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started in music as a contemporary R&B/pop artist but I didn’t care for the way the industry worked for artists so I decided to go into A&R work after moving to Los Ángeles in the music industry, acting, influencing, and developing my own publication company and skincare line.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been far from smooth but completely worth it! As a business owner and contracting out my time as an influencer actress, your income roller coasters and you have to be ready for that. Also, people who are around you start to show that they are not ready or able to come with you on your personal path and you lose or have to distance yourself for a time from some special connections and get hurt by the way people you never expected to treat you a certain way do you. Sometimes paths re-align and you see the reason for it all but most times those people aren’t meant to be on your path any longer. You do eventually make some new connections that help ease those experiences along the way.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My main focus is acting but I am also known in the music industry because of my start there and current work behind the scenes. I also am a known influencer (@queenlalamichelle). Although I love the work I do in the industry I also have many things I’m proud of outside of that and these things I believe also have helped me to maintain as much balance as possible being a single mother living in Los Ángeles California. I own my own businesses I own a publication company as well as a skincare line (Winston Publications and L.Michelle Skincare). I also do A LOT of social advocacy work. I think the social advocacy work (mostly in the name of my late brother Jesus Gillard who was killed by the police in Detroit in 2009) and being the type of mom my daughter is proud of and loves and respects are the accomplishments I’m proud of the most. Although I have been blessed with many career accomplishments as well. I have worked with so many amazing people and on so many amazing projects I really can’t choose a most proud of the moment but all of those are definitely on my social media!

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I’m very spiritual and one person that helps me so much is Karamo Chilombo. He is my spiritual guide and like a father to me. He has been beyond amazing in guiding me. I also read a lot I’m currently finishing for the second time the 48 laws of power which help a lot in business and life in general. I also make sure to watch and read things that give my mind a vacation from my own life. I’m a low-key/high-key anime fan (weeb). My daughter got me into anime and it’s even bled over into my craft a little but not enough to where I can’t put on a death note or something and escape my own mind for just a little while. I am also big on working out and staying active. Yoga and hiking and outdoor activities, water activities and stuff like that keep me grounded. I try to integrate as much grounding into my career as possible but also keep some things just for me and for fun… nothing to do with business at all.
