Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Dickens, Sarah, and Lee Hood.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sarah, Lee and Stephanie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Sarah Hood is the founder of Read Frog and has been in education for 13 years. Prior to teaching in the public-school system, she was a Cognitive Therapist for individuals with traumatic brain injury. Throughout her entire professional career, she has devoted her energies and time to helping others learn in different, multi-sensory, and cognitively efficient ways.
After acquiring her bachelor and master degrees in Psychology from Texas Christian University (Go Frogs!) and working as a cognitive therapist for almost 5 years, she realized her passion was peaked in being able to work with children (not fighting with insurance companies for client services) so, she returned to school and earned a teaching certificate. Here she began the journey as a special education teacher for the public-school system.
After many years dedicated to working with special education students, Sarah moved into the role of a dyslexia specialist/reading intervention teacher. She understood that quality assessment was essential to understanding the unique ways in which people learn. Her drive to become well versed in all aspects of the individualized learning of her students and understand the data that supported their learning, allowed her to venture out again to obtain certification as an Educational Diagnostician from Texas Tech University (Go Red Raiders!). Sarah views her time in the public-school system as a data gathering mission. Sadly, what she also found to be true was that there just isn’t enough time in a day to fully provide struggling students with everything they may need.
All of these different roles have allowed Sarah to take part in student learning, implement educational strategies, and pinpoint individual learning styles. Sarah quickly realized that all things having to do with dyslexia and learning connections in the brain were her driving force. This reality prompted her to complete the requirements for State Licensure as a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT), Licensed Dyslexia Therapist (LDT) and training as a Professional Educational Therapist (PET). Equipped with an arsenal of knowledge and experience, she was determined to create a company that allowed individuals with reading, writing, and spelling difficulties to become empowered and able readers. A company that would take the time to encourage, celebrate, and fosters essential skills for a lifetime of reading success.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We continue to struggle with educating the community about dyslexia and the importance of early assessment and identification. We are always working to educate and inform parents, educators, and students about the importance of early intervention and assessment for reading, dyslexia, literacy, and advocacy.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Fond memories of my early childhood include day after day of setting up a “classroom” of stuffed animals and teaching them to read. Thanks to my mother, who was an early childhood teacher, I was never at a loss for books or educational opportunity. I recall often telling each of my “students” that they would be so smart when they “grew up” as I helped them to complete their worksheets and homework.
