Check Out Haley Hobbs’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Hobbs.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When my husband and I were trying to find a place for my salon we prayed it would be somewhere close but central, something to flip but also if we ever needed to expand we would be able to sell the property to find something new. He blessed us with just that. Our first location for H243 studio began in a 110 years old building that six years ago, Justin and I renovated and contracted out ourselves. We were tearing down sheetrock walls and scrubbing concrete, “kilz”ing the ceiling on scaffolding (which is not for the weak I might add, and not good for the hair). We proceeded to be able to open on January 10, 2017! From that day on it has been an amazing journey of patience, perseverance, and trusting God’s timing! H243 Studio has not just become a place of work but an actual brand that has elevated the look and business model of the suites located within H243 as well as our historic downtown square. We have recently sold our very first location and moved to a more central location located right on our Historical Courthouse Square in Wharton. IT HAS BEEN AMAZING!!!! Justin and I never imagined going from just me working to a team of over 13! I will tell you this journey has not been an easy one but every day, every moment has mattered and continues to encourage me to keep striving!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I think I can speak for most small businesses here and say there is no smooth road owning your own business. I think for me, the one struggle that stands out the most is understanding boundaries with employees/team members and personal relationships. We work together so much and owning a business makes it hard to separate that sometimes. I wish I could go back to our earlier years of business and handle situations differently at this point in my life, but I also look back and appreciate where I was because of the learning moments!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a full-time hairstylist behind the chair as well as managing our salon and suites. When I wear my hairstylist’s hat I specialize in lived in blondes and balayage blended color! I love teaching our assistants as they are training to become on the floor. My work sets me apart from others because it is so customizable. I can customize my client’s color to what works best for their schedule in the amount of maintenance they have time for! #workingmoms

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I am definitely a risk taker! My husband jokes and says the reason he doesn’t play the stock market is because he has me and my big ideas! My two favorite things to say to others and myself are “The worst they can say is no” and “You have never made a mistake trying something new” These words replay in my head time and time again when I am about to take our business to the next level or incorporate something new. They affirm to me that to keep striving, you will hear no and you will have bumps In the road but you have to keep pushing!
