Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheri Phillips.
Hi Sheri, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
“Well, why don’t you pick out your own outfit!” I could almost hear my mom sigh in exhaustion when even at the early age of three, I was fascinated by fashion, style and how it relates to human nature. Sure, it’s early to be so opinionated about an outfit but show me a female three year old who doesn’t speak their mind. After solidifying myself as an early fashion plate, I tested the colorful and textile filled waters by stealing my dad’s oversized sweatshirts and stockpiled a denim collection in every shape and wash color. I soon fell in love with how clothing could change how a person felt about themselves and knew without a doubt that this passion for art and style would never leave. Settling into my early teens and adulthood, my “looks” were already gaining attention and even started getting requests to help my mom’s friends coordinate their closet for special events! That’s when I realized that this fire, this excitement could be translated into successful and fulfilling career.
Fast forward a few years, thru University and marriage and my love for styling never changed. My husband and I were relocated overseas to the Middle East where I was exposed to a whole new exciting world of vibrant colors and cultures. It began to help me see the world thru a new lens, one that showed a whole new Pantone of colors and fabrics that I’ve carried with me and I couldn’t wait to bring back all I had seen to my clients.
Having the ability to travel through Asia and Europe places I only dreamed of while living in Vietnam and Qatar, I’ve been able to pull inspiration from these global styles to elevate core everyday pieces. I like to make clothing feel approachable, especially for those who can be intimated. Most people stick to what is “traditionally beautiful,” but I see the beauty and uniqueness of each client and bring that to the forefront. My favorite part is watching my clients confidence grow during our time together, seeing their own inner and outer beauty for themselves. The clothes are just the bonus!
I truly believe that confidence is the best outfit we can wear and my goal is to help my clients seem themselves this way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In between starting our family, moving overseas, and all the adventures in between, I’ve learned to be flexible and know it takes time to build a brand that people can trust. There have been plenty of seasons where I didn’t think I could get back to work,(young kids, relocating) where I would be able to provide my clients with the quality service I strive for, but I am very lucky to have the support and love of my family and friends that have believed in me from the beginning. The best part of the journey is learning and growing, I am excited for whats next.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Theres a special relationship when you are spending time together helping them discover their style, who they truly are inside and out and how that relates to fashion and how they carry themselves through their day to day. A lot of times clients feel vulnerable asking for help because, understandably, change can be intimidating. I understand change and having to be flexible in life and style so there is nothing better for me than to be able to put them at ease and make them feel special, that’s when we can really get to work on a solid fashion transition. Theres nothing better than when I hear from a client that they thought they wouldn’t find anything but they leave feeling confident and beautiful.
An attainable goal I’ve set for myself is to partner with local stores in the community to host in house style events. I believe this will allow my brand to be more accessible to all who are interested in learning more about what a personal stylist can do for them.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
That’s an interesting question because I feel like so much has changed already in the six years that I’ve been professionally styling. So I’m probably more excited than nervous to see what the shifts and trends are in the coming decade. For one being adaptable is a must in any industry but I feel like in the fashion industry it’s even more so. But no matter what changes occur within social media, or brick and mortar stores, people are still humans and desire to have that personal interaction. Nothing can replace the ability to work with someone face to face, and create a personal experience, I feel confident I will still be able to fulfill that role with my customized personal services.
