Conversations with Ana Silva

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Silva.

Hi Ana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My photography journey started about 15 years ago, but it wasn’t until 6 years ago that I found my true purpose. And that is to empower women through photographs.

Women by default always put themselves last for one reason or another and I wanted to change that narrative.

Whether they’re a mom, a wife, or a caregiver, women always put others’ needs ahead of their own. I wanted to flip the script and show them that it’s ok to think about themselves first and to celebrate their womanhood.

In order to do so, I joined the 40 Over 40 and 50 Over 50 movements. These campaigns are to celebrate women getting older and celebrating it with a beautiful photo shoot.

It’s about photographing 40 women in their 40s and 50 women in their 50s to remind them what a trailblazer they are. To remind them of their beauty, strength, and wisdom.

The media has conditioned women to think their lives are over once they turned 40 and that couldn’t be farther from the truth. 40 is the new 20 and 50 is the new 30!

I’m on a mission to help women realize their worth and provide them with amazing portraits in the process.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been easy. There’s been a lot of bumps on the road.

From struggling to get clients to getting the clients to pay for my worth to trolls telling me I’m too expensive, haha.

I know I’m not everyone’s cup of tea nor is my work everyone’s taste but I’m confident in my work and my ability to provide great service.

Hating and trolling comes with the territory and I’m finally at a point where it no longer bothers me when people say I’m too expensive. I actually feel proud of it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a portrait photographer specializing in women and children portraits.

I’m most proud of helping women of all ages see themselves the way the people who love them see them.

It fills me with so much joy when they see themselves and tell me how much they love their photos.

I believe that what sets me apart is my genuine desire to make them feel and look good. It’s not about the money but the reward of seeing them transform in front of my lens and them accepting they are in fact beautiful.

How do you define success?
Success to me is making others happy through my work. It’s knowing that years from now my clients will have beautiful photos to leave behind as a legacy for their loved ones. You can’t put a price on that.
