Today we’d like to introduce you to Cathryn Shobo.
Hi Cathryn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Cathryn Shobo depending on where you meet me, I go by Cathy or more notably, Champagne Cathy. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas, more specifically Missouri City, Texas. I would describe myself as a cool- mom, childcare boss, linker, grant organizer, and IG Bestie.
Sometimes when I think about where I am now, about the rooms that I’ve been in, and have taken advantage of think of how blessed I am. As a Nigerian – American, Single mother and college university drop out, everything statistically said that I was bound to fail and be a disappointment to my family. With all my experiences, I am a testimony that your past is not your future. God did not put you here to fail. That if you continue to pour into yourself consistently and focus on what you want to do and achieve your goals you’re destined to be successful. Life is a marathon, not a race.
Childcare with something that I was kind of room to do my mother has been in clipper Child care for over 20 years, and I learn the business firsthand under my aunt for about four years before I got my own center in 2016.
Opening my childcare center I came in with about eight years of Private, Corporate Childcare, and Non Profit experience under my belt. While working in corporate childcare, I learned the business on a larger scale with systems and operations. Working in private childcare, I saw Business at a micro level and how to grow business. Being in both those experiences allowed me to take, change, modify, or omit what I wanted for my own business. Today at Crimson early learning Center services many families in the 5 corners Houston area and Is currently in review for Texas Rising Star Certification.
Learning and mastering grant funding really changed for me during the pandemic where I had a little bit more time to focus on other things because childcare slow down because we were only able to service essential workers. I would go online and search for grant opportunities and became very proficient in securing those opportunities, so much so that I was invited by the United States Government to be a part of a grant writing program where I was able to learn more about Grant Organizing. Those opportunities also allowed me to meet different people and learn of other different funding opportunities that people may or may not even know about, or how to take advantage.

With my different experiences, I’ve been able to help people obtain Childcare Licenses, and open Centers and Academies. I have helped individuals and businesses obtain and secure funding. I have coached people to organize and build business models in various industries. I have had the opportunity to connect with people and redirect them into being motivated to be their best selves.
I’m excited to continue to grow in my different impact endeavors and businesses and continue to be the seed or be the soil wherever I am.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Doing what I do on a daily basis has not always been the easiest. From learning as a child an error to being afraid of what people might think of me to be afraid of failing has not always been easy. And even today I’m still learning and growing and experiencing obstacles and challenges. What I learn from every experience, every obstacle, and every Challenge is that you cannot let that stop you from being great. There is an answer to every problem.

He comes in early learning Center is a curriculum-based learning center located in Houston, Texas more specifically West Airport Inn Fondren area. We service children from six weeks to 12 years we’re currently up for Texas rising star certification.

Crimson Early Learning Center, I’m most proud of the team that I built that helped me and helps me to continue to grow and service my community. With Champagne Cathy I am most proud of the organic growth and the connections in the opportunities that I was able to have for myself and others.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Childcare is a multi-billion dollar industry. I think with the current legislature the laws on abortion and the baby boom during the pandemic, I do believe that childcare will continue to be an essential business and vital to the stabilization of our economy.
