Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Lindsey.
Hi Ashley, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I became a “professional” photographer 10 years ago. I didn’t know what I was doing in business. I charged way too little, photographed EVERYTHING, and just didn’t understand how to be profitable. After a couple of years, I worked part-time for a very profitable wedding photographer. Her prices just blew my mind, and at the same time, I came across a portrait photographer that was teaching others how to make money photographing just what you want. PERFECT timing! So in 2016 I rebranded and relaunched specializing in photographing women.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth?! Ha, can any solopreneur say that? If so I’d love to talk to them!
My most recent struggle has been moving state in a pandemic and trying to launch in a new location. It’s my fault really though. I just didn’t want to go out and network again.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m known for photographing women in a more glam, magazine-style, way. They can choose to go full on with tulle gowns or the complete opposite in a turtleneck. I love it all!
I’m slowly getting my name out in the BCS area. I get a buzz when someone recognizes my name!
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Find a community in your field that is open and willing to talk about the hard stuff. Talk about money, how to set up to be profitable, how to market for what you want to do. All of those hard questions. Ask for help, there is always someone willing to help.
