Check Out Symone Davis’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Symone Davis.

Hi Symone, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I remember when I was a teenager, the concept of blogging was fairly new. Most bloggers were from large cities in New York or California. Being from a small town in Louisiana, blogging didn’t seem realistic. Entertainment, such as the mall, movies, chain restaurants or major stores, was about 40 miles away. I remember reading bloggers’ posts and being inspired. I’ve always wanted to inspire others but wasn’t sure how to do it because of limited resources.

Growing up, I had the luxury of being able to explore my creative side. I was enrolled in a dance studio, piano lessons, and art classes (painting). Among all these opportunities, I really enjoyed my art classes. Attending art class each week to work on sections of my paintings and having my own work of art at the end was a true delight. It also brought me joy to work on a DIY project or decorate a space.

After moving to Houston, the idea of sharing my work with others became a reality. In 2021, I began my journey as a content creator, focusing on DIY, décor, and lifestyle. By sharing my work on social media, I have built a clientele and followers. It fills my heart to know that my dream as a teenager of inspiring others is now a reality.

My goal is to create content that followers can recreate and/or inspire them to create. When working with clients, I’ve noticed they have a big idea of what they want, but don’t know the specifics of how to create the details to make it happen. I am truly blessed to build a business around decorating and inspiring others.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have always had to work for things. Nothing was ever given to me. While going through struggles, it’s definitely a pain, but looking back at things, it’s actually a blessing. It’s the moments when I struggle or fail that I grow. I am forced to discontinue an old approach and try something new. When something doesn’t work out for me, I keep working at it until I get the desired outcome. It has definitely been a learning experience with my platform. Learning different strategies, figuring out my style of producing content, and the cost of creating content are areas I had to learn to work on, but my passion for inspiring and decorating has kept me pushing forward despite the struggles. Therefore, it is important to create content you truly have an interest in versus something that is “trending.” Discipline also plays a role as well. The days when I may have to put a lot of time into creating something or may get discouraged that I focus on my why and the goals I want to accomplish through my platform. It’s not a smooth ride, but I feel these beginning stages are laying a foundation that will benefit me in the long run.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
In my full-time career, I am a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP). I perform professional psychological work in assessment, behavior management, and counseling for students. In my part-time career, I am a content creator in the areas of DIY, décor, and lifestyle and also decorate for events and homes. On my platform, I share DIY projects and decorate spaces to inspire others to recreate or spark ideas for others to decorate their spaces. I love working with clients because I can bring their ideas to life or present them with new ideas. The beauty of my job is that it brings me joy to create, as well as bring joy to my clients by creating beautiful environments and spaces.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Initially, when the Covid-19 crisis caused a shutdown, I never realized how social I was and how important human connection is. Calling, texting, or even video chatting is great, but there’s nothing like face-to-face interaction. Human interaction is something I love experiencing when working with my clients. Seeing their facial expression after completing an event for them or receiving a hug when they are expressing their excitement is a pure reward. Parties, events, and gatherings are vital in bringing people together. When people are in decorated spaces, they feel great; it makes it an inviting environment and, most importantly, the memories it will create. The Covid-19 crisis has also shown that there is always an alternative way of doing things despite what has been previously done, and for me, it has stretched my way of thinking. I am not limited to anything and the beauty of decorating and creating content is that there are a variety of styles. The best style is the way it makes you feel overall.
