Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
A few years before 2020, I quit my event planning job due to family time and being burnt out. I wasn’t fulfilled within in my career, so I took a break. During my exploration, I stumbled into web design through various courses and never turned back. After 2020, I shifted my business purpose towards helping social impact brands with a bold approach. Hence, the creation of Studio Junk!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
2020 really was the make or break year for me. My relationships, mental and physical health along with my overall professional development, was challenged. Also, being a liberal Black woman, it was purely exhausting and sad to watch how much some folks don’t care about human rights. Financially, I didn’t always have the means to get the best of the best or invest in every single course but I worked hard, along with support from family and friends, to be where I am today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am the founder and lead designer behind Studio Junk, a design studio championing social impact biz owners by revolutionizing their ideas into expressive brands. We specialize in web design, and brand strategy and design. Our culture represents bold designs, building community towards a greater good, and down-to-earth customer service.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I have taken the time in different areas of my experiences to reach out to individuals for their time and expertise. I make myself open to new ideas regardless if I disagree or not because I see it has a positive momentum to help grow my business and me personally.
