Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Smith.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi, I’m Emily, founder of Smith House Couture. I’ve always had a love for style, design, color, pattern and texture which is why I studied and practiced Interior Design. I love and apply those same principles to fashion and my own style. After years of styling friends and family, being asked where I got my look and dreaming of opening my own boutique, I took the leap!
I launched my online boutique, Smith House Couture, to be a place women could shop curated collections to represent current trends and styles. Fashion can be overwhelming for some people, so I love being able to help women find something they love, flatters their shape and boosts their confidence.
My friends and family are representative of my favorite thing about Houston, it is diverse! I wanted to build a brand where no matter your age, size, or background you can find something that works for you. It has been so much fun finding styles that my smallest and most petite clients love as well as my tallest or curviest girls and everyone in between!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’m sure any business owner can relate to the struggle of starting and growing your business and your audience. Reminding myself that I don’t have to do everything and all the things at one time is a personal struggle. It is a learning process for sure, but it has been fun and rewarding!
In the world of Amazon (which I too love) it can be a challenge to have individuals understand the efforts small businesses go through, the story behind brands and what sets them apart. I really value having brands that are small batch, not on Amazon, have a great design story, owned and operated by women or have sustainable practices. It has been really eye-opening as a small business owner interacting with brands and manufacturers how much I was oblivious to when I was just a consumer.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
While I am online, I also host pop events and in-house personal shopping parties with styling services and personal branding services coming soon!
Online, I have new launches weekly and send out a fashion edit weekly with style tips, trends, insider info on deals I have going on as well as where my next event will be.
Personal shopping parties are my absolute favorite! Shopping is always more fun with friends and sometimes it helps women get out of their shells. Going into a store isn’t every woman’s favorite thing, believe it or not, but every woman loves a Girls’ Night Out with their friends. Shopping parties are a fun way for women to catch up, build each other up and share lots of good laughs. I bring the styles to them to try on in person firsthand. I love being there to help guide them on styles that reflect their personality as well as silhouettes that flatter them. My favorite is when I can show someone a garment they might have normally overlooked and in the end, it be the piece that they loved the most!
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters to me is making sure that women are seen and heard. We as women may be of different heights, sizes, and lifestyles, but we all share many of the same struggles. We often do not feel enough, confident, or worthy. The right clothing can help you not only look your best but feel your best! My goal is for my clothing and accessories to empower someone to feel like they can do anything.
