Today we’d like to introduce you to MaryAnn Lucas.
Hi MaryAnn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I dabbled in art with no formal training as a young adult and started my artistic career after my youngest child went to school full time. I went back to college and concentrated on all the art classes they had to offer. I quickly looked for venues to display and sell my work, learning to mat and frame myself – I felt it was part of the creative process, and it also was most economical to do so.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Losing art venues – at one time the large office buildings extended free space for artists to show their work but for whatever reason, they stopped doing that.
Covid brought all art venues to a halt and several haven’t started up again.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have evolved over the years into an abstract mixed-media artist and more recently incorporated recycling. I am most proud of my ingenuity in this respect. I feel I am set apart from others by my originality in my work.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Looking/daydreaming out the window of my classroom as the snow slowly floated to the ground. The color of the sky, a murky grey/blue was so peaceful to look at.
