Conversations with Gina Pierce

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina Pierce.

Hi Gina, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started as an event planner in Dallas and later decided that that was too much work, because I was still working full-time. I’ve always baked for my family but was never a cake decorator. I would make cakes for my staff to test and I later became the cake lady for my job. While in Dallas, I started getting more and more cake orders. I would get off work and come straight home to bake; I’d be up until after midnight. We moved to Houston in 2015, and in 2016 I announced my business on our neighborhood Facebook page. I am now known as the Neighborhood Cake Lady!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I was working, my biggest struggle was baking so late after work. Working all day at a job and then coming home to my family to work more. Learning to say no or that I’m booked has really helped me.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I never really knew that I was creative until I started cake decorating. The things that I find to use to decorate a cake is endless (flowers, toys, cookies, household items, etc.)

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I’m a foodie from Louisiana! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE Houston’s food culture and a vast amount of restaurants!

What I like least about Houston is the traffic! The traffic was part of my reasoning to retire.
