Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiera Williams-Jones.
Hi Kiera, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My love for food and cooking began long before I decided to start Urban Cuisine. I was raised in the Kitchen. My Grandmothers (Brenda, Catherine, Ada, Kara) and Aunts (Twyla. Carla) play a huge role in the cooking skills I’ve developed.
Urban Cuisine, was created in 2018, almost immediately after I moved back from Louisiana to Texas. I’d begun selling plates to different companies, hosting live dinner raffles, and all that eventually led to me expanding into catering private and social events.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a Chef, just like any other job has its pros and cons. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the enjoyment of serving others but the road is not always so “Smooth”. Time management/Prepping has to be the most important thing ever in this field. However, I am thankful to God for every challenge and opportunity that continues to help myself/ my business to grow.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Urban Cuisine is a black-owned catering business, right here in Houston, Tx. Things that I specialize in… I would say anything of southern comfort (because I’m a true southern gal) mixed with a pinch of my secret sauce haha. Some Clients’ favorites to name a few: Loaded Pasta Potatoes, Loaded Seafood Potatoes, Lamb Chops, Jambalaya stuffed Cornish hens, Banana Pudding, Seafood Pasta, Green Beans, Urban Punch and much more.
I think the thing that sets me apart from others, would be how dedicated I am to my business. Despite many obstacles thrown my way, I still decide to keep going “Can’t Stop Won’t Stop”. I also would like to add that everything I prepare is literally handled with so much love and care you can taste it in each bite.
What makes me most proud of my brand is me being the brains of it and watching it blossom into something so beautiful.
For all my readers if you would like someone to cater your private/social events (weddings, parties, meetings, etc.) think of me first. Follow my IG: @UrbanCuisine_.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned on this journey is that every day won’t be glitter and rainbows and that’s totally okay. Cut yourself some slack and keep going/growing.
