Today we’d like to introduce you to Lawanda Moshay-Harrison.
Lawanda, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My life’s story has been such a roller coaster, but I wouldn’t trade my journey for anything in this world. The good days and bad days have made me the woman that I am. It has given me the drive that I have. I was raised by my Grandmother and she did all that she could to instill the love of God in me. I’ve gone from being a teenage mother to being a divorced mother and now a happily married wife! God has blessed me with an amazing support system, but believe me, I know what struggle looks like. I remember the pain of losing my Grandmother and worrying about how I would get through it. I have had days when I worried about how I would pay the bills and feed the kids. I will never forget being the mother that could not afford to give my kids birthday parties and nice gifts. I remember saying that one day I would be there for struggling mothers that would like to plan nice parties and I would make sure it was something awesome, amazing and affordable! I knew that I could do, but struggled on how to make it happen. With God’s help, it happened. I started small, but little by little, I added to my business and I never gave up. There were days that I didn’t think that I had it in me, but I kept praying and trying. My husband & our children has been the greatest blessing. He continues to support me every step of the way! I have an amazing team behind me. Other than my husband and children. My sister Dornice Smith, that always has my back and keeps me focused on building my business. Especially when I get a little discouraged. My sister Daunay Willis, that keeps me motivated and to always keep putting my best foot forward. She’s a great example of an inspiration, I must say! So many more people have pushed me to be great. I just believe in giving people their flowers why they’re here !! Just know that the hustle will never stop when it comes to my business & what all God has for us here at Kharacters n’Kandy!!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life has been filled with ups and downs! I remember the determination in my soul when I became a single mother. I had to keep going and not give up on me. I was determined to earn my high school diploma and to go on to attend college. There were so many that gave up on me and thought that I would be just another statistic, but I was determined to prove them wrong. My Grandmother did not live much longer after my son was born and this was a huge heartbreak for me. I was grateful to God for putting people in my path that continued cheering me on anyhow. I remember the days of working long hours and rarely getting to spend time with my kids. I didn’t allow adversity to stop me. I married and divorced my high school sweetheart. I remember wondering if I had it in me to keep going, but God never let me down. My struggle is what has fueled my desire to make a difference in the lives of others. Each and every party that I put together is put together with love. The smiles on the faces of the parents and children light up my life. I know the pain of not being able to afford to bless my kids with the best parties. I don’t want other parents to know that pain, so I do all that I can to make their visions for the children’s special day come alive.
We’ve been impressed with Kharacters n’Kandy, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business allows me to bring children’s parties and events to life. We provide services to include, but limited to bounce houses, balloon arches, 360 cameras and cartoon mascot visits. We work closely with families and friends to create memories that will last a lifetime.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
COVID-19 was a huge reminder that life is short and that every day should be lived to the fullest. I continue supporting my clients to have amazing events and make memories that will last a lifetime.
