I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I have faced many struggles personally stemming from my childhood and a poor, chaotic and unhealthy environment to my own personal struggles with depression, anxiety, anger and hyperactivity even into my adult life.
When I first joined to U.S. Coast Guard, I was constantly in trouble due to many of the issues mentioned above and I couldn’t gain control of my life partly because of these difficulties, but I was able to eventually get a grasp and have been on a journey to fulfill what I believe is my calling ever since.
I honestly could name a lot of stuff and go into detail, but I will just list a few hardships here and we can discuss further as you’re interested.
Got reverted at Bootcamp (required to stay an extra week).
Got Arrested (DWI).
Captain’s Masted Twice (Being Convicted of UCMJ violation and punished).
Divorced.
Lost friends and family tragically.
Father is a Liver Transplant Patient.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about TriFitness Gym?
Fitness has been my path to healing, growth, and leading a fulfilling and rewarding life and I always wanted to share this gift with others. I joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 2004 and quickly sought out and gained more responsibility and opportunities because of my passion for staying active and helping others. As a Cutter Rescue Swimmer, I was looked upon to rescue and support others in distress which was extremely challenging and rewarding for me. This showed me how resilient and capable I was and how much I could do for others. In 2011 I decided I wanted to start working as a personal trainer helping use fitness to improve more lives and I started working to gain more professional knowledge and expertise to help others. I took a second job working at a local gym in 2013 and that’s where I met John, my business partner and all of the amazing members who have helped me grow my expertise and passion for coaching the 50+ population. I saw the massive need with our older adult population to have a well-designed and structured training programs and made this my mission. We designed TriFitness Gym to make active and positive living fun, simple and attainable for anyone. With so many people sick and only 9% of our population using a gym membership effectively in 2018, I knew we could do better!
My team and I have grown our business from a 240 square foot garage with 7 clients to now 3500 square foot retail space and over 120 members with hard work and consistency. I believe we all have gifts to share and it is our responsibility to grow these gifts and use them to make the world a better place for us all. It is extremely rewarding to build a business that is impactful in our community and to serve an at risk population like the 50+ demographic and help them see how strong and capable they truly are. We are giving many of our clients their lives back through our coaching program and our community of supportive and loving individuals and I couldn’t be more proud of our progress to this point. We have systemized our business and are building an application to help us run our program to enable us to scale easier in the near future.
We have raised and donated over $25,000 over our nearly 4-year existence. Some of the organizations we have supported include Combined Arms Travis Manion Foundation Operation Red Wings Foundation, Alzheimer’s Association: Houston & Southeast Texas Chapter UTMB Sealy Center on Aging American Legion Post 490 Texas Huntington’s Disease Society of America Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UTMB USO Houston and many many more organizations
