Today we’d like to introduce you to Bre Bell.
Hi Bre, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Since high school, I have wanted to be a leasing agent. I thought it would be so great to help people find their next apartment home. Years ago, they made it difficult to become a leasing agent without school, prior experience or certification. I finally got my opportunity in 2017, almost 10 years after I graduated high school and had many other occupations. I began my career in Real Estate as a leasing agent working for Berkshire Hathaway which is a property management company. The high-rise I worked in was great, the people were so friendly, and I immediately started to have success even impressing my upper management with my skills. While I was working at the high-rise, I had a Fashion internship opportunity working with a local designer on the days I wasn’t in the leasing office. I had struggles in my personal life and decided to quit the leasing job and focus on fashion working as an intern for a local designer. After about 2 months I decided to relocate back to my hometown of Houston right before the pandemic shutdown. Upon returning to Houston, I had the opportunity to work as a leasing agent again up until everything shut down causing the offices to close and I was no longer needed. I spent that first year working from home on fashion projects for clients. Once the world began to open again, I decided I did not want to go back to leasing and applied myself to get my real estate license. I passed right as the world opened back up. I found a broker I wanted to work with that specialized in Commercial and Residential Real Estate. Only being a Realtor® for a little over a year, I have been blessed to already have good moments in this industry and I look forward to seeing where this new path takes me!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road was far from smooth. I was still finding myself during the first few years of me getting into this industry, and through that struggle, I found a love for this! When I first started working with my broker, I quickly realized this is a hustle and daily commitment to make money for one and to sustain your business. I went months with no income coming in outside of the bakery business I own which is also a small business being the only operator. I had to make a choice of working in my bakery or taking the chance to build my name in this industry. Once I started getting clients and closing transactions, I knew this was what I really enjoyed doing so I put my bakery on the back burner and dove all in. The leap of faith I took hasn’t been in vain and I am so grateful to God for guiding me when I had no clue where I was headed.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I currently specialize mostly in Commercial transactions, being a business owner myself and a creative. I learned the hard way how to navigate my business being a first generation owner in my family. With all that I learned, I saw an opportunity for me to come into a lane that is dominantly white males and make my own impact. I now work with other creatives like myself that are new to the business and want to learn how to not only operate a company but to leverage other resources to build. I am known as Mother Nature in this industry and those who have not meet me yet, will come to know me as the same! I also work within the inner loop of Houston in residential transactions helping clients find apartments, investments, and mostly luxury homes. I am most proud of staying true to my nature and not allowing what others see as the norm to dictate how I look, dress and carry myself. I am a strong believer in coming as you are and building off that! We are all unique and should be free to express ourselves how we want while still getting the respect we deserve from the “norm” in the business world. Times are changing, and we should embrace that change.
What matters most to you?
Being true to yourself matters the most to me. I have always grown up as the different one, I never have been able to just check a box to say this is me. I strongly believe in finding what you love and how you can make it your own! We are all unique and are given talents that can help the world be a better place we just have to learn to step into our faith and purpose wholeheartedly. Once you follow your path, you’ll learn that the journey can be a lot smoother than you might have imagined. God gives us what we need, we just have to stay open to receive the information.
