Hi Laura, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my business to build something for my kids’ future. I want them to have something to count on and remind them that things are possible with love and dedication. Hoping in the future they’ll follow my footsteps and probably be bigger than what I’ve been able to build. I’ve been a licensed cosmetologist for 10 years and my interest towards waxing started when I became a client myself. My wax lady was so amazing that I literally said I want to be her and I wanted to do what she does. I started doing research and continued education to learn more about it. Got my education and gained experience which made me comfortable enough to open up my own suite. I created a safe environment where clients can feel comfortable coming in for their hair removal needs and walk out confident of themselves. Opening a business during the pandemic had its cons and pros which taught me a lot. I learned to be patient and not to give up easily. Always trust the process and best assure that what you harvest you will get back. I started working at a very young age, from helping my mom with housekeeping to working long hours in retail to having my own business. Each phase has been a learning experience and met amazing people who taught me many things that I still put in place to run my business.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. There are so many things to learn. I tried having my own business and failed twice due to inexperience. I tried a 3rd time and 3rd time was a charm. One of my greatest traits is being stubborn because I never quit my dream and while I’m still not where I want to be I’m definitely glad I went through what I did to be where I’m currently at. I stay thankful to those who believe in me and gave the opportunity. You can be the greatest but you still need others to give you that chance in life to show off your talent.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Being a licensed cosmetologist you learn many things from the beauty industry but after trying to do all I learned that specializing in one topic was better. That’s why I decide to focus solely on full body waxing. My popular services are bikini waxing, eyebrow shaping and vajacials. I’m mostly proud of my vajacials which is a facial to the bikini area. Learning and trying out so many products helped create treatments for the bikini area. There are many of us who suffer from breakouts in the area and being an intimate area makes it complicated to seek help. What sets me apart are my results and most importantly all products get tested and tried out first based on skin reactions and how good the results are, before being offered to clients.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
The person who I am now is a combination of guidance from my dad, my aunt and my first boss. My dad is the best employee ever and the most responsible head of the household. My aunt was a risk taker and always going for more. My first boss gave me my first job even when I didn’t believe in myself. I remember telling him I don’t know English well and he said I don’t know Spanish and that’s why I need you. That first opportunity he gave me opened the rest of the doors. A total stranger gave me the opportunity and the confidence. Of course my clients for trusting me and. always referring their friends and family.
