Today we’d like to introduce you to Simone Higginbotham.
Hi Simone, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Simone Onya Higginbotham, Mother, Grammie, Sister, Friend, Entrepreneur and Overcomer. I am 51 years old, and I currently live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where I am the Executive Director of Scotlandville Community Development Corporation and CEO of Rebirth Weekend of Legends DBA Rebirth Magazine. I have not always worn all of those hats. I experienced a tragedy early in life “Domestic Violence” at the hands of my Ex-husband for 10 years. It has been nearly 20 years since I left, but what happened to me all those years ago created the woman I am today. In 2015 I released my first book Caged by Words Something Like a Memoir that tells the story of the emotional, mental and verbal abuse I endured during my marriage. That book pushed me into the position to advocate for other Domestic Violence Victims through Rebirth Magazine and other platforms I have been blessed to be a part of. My goal is to educate the world that Domestic Violence can happen to anyone. It crosses cultural, racial, financial and religious lines. I work endlessly to educate other that their Network is the NetWorth. In 2023 I will release my second and third books along with the non-profit Rebirth Inc a resource center for women in transition.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My struggles have been moving past what happened to me, while trying to build a healthy life for my daughter and I. The blessing has been the individuals that I have encountered over the years. Being in a marriage for so long, I had to get back into the real world. Creating a life outside of being told what I wasn’t really was the struggle.

Rebirth Weekend of Legends DBA Rebirth Magazine is a print/digital publication that features women that are educating, empowering or inspiring others. Each October for the last nine years, we have hosted the Rebirth Magazine Legend Awards and honor those that have served the last, the least and the lost in their community. Also, host various smaller events quarterly that empower the community as a whole
