Meet Erika Thomas of Erika’s Resume Workshop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Thomas.

Hi Erika, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story starts back in May of this year when I joined Google via a staffing agency. With me joining the company, I had a lot of people reach out to me via Linkedin about my resume and how I was able to join such a great company. My resume of course did have a lot to do with my transition but also my communication skills as well. While being so active on Linkedin, I started talking to others about their resumes and how to interview, 2 resumes turned into 20 into a month, and unexpectedly my contract ended and all I had left was my skillset and a few willing paying customers so I took that and hit the ground running. All summer long I worked and perfected my resume skills and turned my Linkedin connections into customers who needed my help and now by the end of summer, I ended up making over $3,800. So here I am with a website, a conference hosted by a UK group called Color Mentor, a few international clients and now hosting my own class called Newbies in Tech teaching people about resumes, cover letter, transitional skills, and career coaching. I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Oh man, I wish, lol but honestly, no, not really, because what lessons would I have learned? I take all my feedback and reviews, which have been amazing, to heart and constantly try to perfect each interaction as much as possible.

As you know, we’re big fans of Erika’s Resume Workshop. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am resume advisor first, then comes the mentor and career consultant. I never followed behind the dream of a 9-5 but I knew in order for me to remove myself from that pattern, I had to take myself more seriously. I am kind-hearted and hard-working, I am known for my work ethic and on time calls, replies and emails. I love interacting with my clients all the way through. I put my clients first and I want them to all succeed in this lifetime.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success with lessons. You can’t succeed until you know where you have come from. Valuing everything you do.
