Community Highlights: Meet Nancy Truong of Walter & Truong

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Truong.

Hi Nancy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Just about anyone who has an older brother can relate to this story. Your older brother is someone who will beat the final boss on the hardest level of a video game for you, he will also endlessly torture you as you are going through your angsty teenage years, and eventually as adults, you will become the best of friends. I grew up with that same brother who would always tease me or taunt me for any and everything. As a young eight-year-old, I came up with a brilliant idea that I would clean my brother’s room in exchange for a written contract where he promised not to bother me for one full day. I cleaned his room with the utmost diligence because in return, I knew I would have one full day of peace and quiet. The contract was handwritten, dated, and signed by him. I even taped it up on the wall next to my bed. I slept the best I had ever slept, knowing the next day would be a good one. To my surprise, my brother continued with his usual antics. I pulled out the contract and showed it to him, to which he replied that my contract did not specify when it would be effective. In fact, the only thing it said was he would not mess with me for one day. The terms were so clearly vague and poorly thought out. Ever since that day I told myself that I would never again be on the losing side of a contract that I wrote myself. This ignited my career path to be an attorney because it showed me the importance of having clearly thought out and intentional terms when entering into an agreement with another party. To think, if I didn’t have such a menacing older brother, my career path today might be different.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been a smooth road, like any journey, there are ups and downs. In law school, the struggles were making good grades, staying on top of your reading assignments, and trying not to get called on during recitation. After you graduate, the struggle is passing the bar to become a licensed attorney. Today, it’s juggling clients, judges, opposing counsels and a firm.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Walter & Truong we differentiate ourselves from our competitors because we are responsive. We have an internal policy where we reply to clients within 24 hours of their correspondence. Your matters are important and urgent, so we take deadlines and timelines very seriously.

Managing Partners at Walter & Truong are also real estate investors. We understand from an investor’s viewpoint how to solve problems for clients. There is the black letter law and then there is the real-life situation. We provide clients with strategic solutions and offer preventative planning to set them up for success.

We were both born to parents who immigrated to America, so we understand hard work. Our family members were entrepreneurs so as a consequence, we both inherited the entrepreneurial spirit. We both understand the importance of supporting small businesses because building a business from the ground up is no easy feat. It takes dedication and sacrifice. We understand that you have given so much time to developing your business, so let us help you protect it. As business owners ourselves, we understand the importance of time. We want you to spend more of your time doing what you love, building your business while we handle the back end to make sure your business is properly maintained, and protected from liability, and eventually take care of the succession planning for your family.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Playing pretend, mostly as a small restaurant or business owner with my cousins. We made the best fake pizza.
