Hi Jocelyn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always loved animals and knew that I wanted to carry that love with me in my career. Because I wanted a job working with animals, I applied to my nearest pet store and started off as a cashier. I soon realized I wanted a more hands-on job so I became a dog bather. This job felt natural to me and I felt very comfortable working so closely with dogs of all shapes and sizes. From there I moved up to dog grooming in the same store and absolutely fell in love with it. I gained experience there for about two to three years and moved to a different salon in Montrose. After working there for a while, I decided to dedicate my time to my at home grooming business that had been slowly growing over time. This is what led me to start my own small business and I am so grateful that I get to do this as my job.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Although my journey has been amazing, there are times when the road isn’t always smooth. Some of the struggles I’ve had along the way have been learning to manage the work/life balance. Up until 2020, I had been working nonstop and once we had our first baby in 2021 I had to put my career on hold. After going back to work, I realized at home grooming would work best for me and my family. Another area I have struggled with is the workspace. It is small and we have been looking for something bigger so we can have more than just me grooming in our busier seasons.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Grooming by Jocelyn?
Grooming by Jocelyn is an at home grooming business. We are known for stress free, one on one grooming. Our main focus is making your dogs or cats feel comfortable during their grooming session. We like to emphasize humanity over vanity, meaning we will not do anything that makes your pup uncomfortable or stressed. I strive to make each and every pet look as cute as possible in the safest way possible.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is being able to spend quality time with my family. Working for myself has allowed me to do more of that. Another thing that makes me happy is my customers’ reactions after seeing their dogs all cleaned up. It makes me proud of all the hard work I put into making every pet even more beautiful. This business wouldn’t be possible without my husband so when I see happy and satisfied customers, I am very thankful that my family has played a big role in the growth of my business. I love the connections I make with my wonderful four-legged clients and their awesome parents. Seeing how happy both the customer and their pet are at pick up is my absolute favorite thing about my job besides spending time with the sweetest dogs.
