Meet Jenny Mason of Jenny Mason, Realtor in The Woodlands

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Mason.

Jenny, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story in Texas started 4 years ago when my husband and I moved here for his job. Both my daughters are grown and on their own, so I started looking for my “second-half” career. After working in banking, retail, network marketing and administrative jobs I was ready for something new.

My friends and family suggested that real estate would be a good fit for me. I was a realtor in another state years ago after college and decided it would be interesting to try it again. I have lived in 4 states and overseas, so I really understand what it is like to sell a house and find a home. This is my first year as a Texas Realtor and I work with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Gary Greene.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There is a lot to learn to be prepared to take the licensing exam and it had been quite awhile since I had taken classes and studied! Getting into that routine was a bit of a challenge. I researched real estate brokers and decided to work with a large company that I knew would have lots of experienced agents and offer great training classes.

After passing the national and state exams this year, I started with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Gary Greene and I specialize in residential real estate. Working in this place is interesting because some people have been in the Houston area all their lives and others are new to Texas or the U.S. We are truly a melting pot and I love meeting and working with people who have such varied life experiences.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am an independent contractor, so although I am an agent with BHGRE Gary Greene, I have my own business. I work with residential buyers and sellers. I have experience in home staging and room redesign. If you’re selling your house, you need to make it as marketable as possible these days. Everyone compares houses to what they see on HGTV, but we all know that most houses don’t look that way. I know how to help sellers prepare and present their houses in the best way possible to attract buyers.

On the flip side, when you buy a house you may not be able to start with new furniture chosen for that space or find the house with your ideal floor plan. I work with my clients to visualize how to make a house work for them. I understand the stress that comes with moving and I do everything I can to take the pressure off my clients. I’m a good listener and take the time to find out how I can best help them.

What were you like growing up?
I have 2 younger sisters and all our names start with J. I grew up just two blocks from my grandparents and had a lot of stability in my life with family and church. Looking back, I now see that growing up in the ’60’s and ’70’s was a really interesting time with all the extremes in politics, music, and fashion. My friends and I had sleepover parties where we each brought our favorite album and we would play them while dancing around and feeling very cool! I liked to read books and write stories and television scripts for my favorite shows.

Growing up in Southern California was a lot of fun with both the beach and the mountains just a short drive away. I have always loved old houses and antiques. Although I had many different pets through the years, my dream was to own a Wire Fox Terrier; the same breed made famous by Asta in The Thin Man movies from the 1930’s. As of last year, I am the happy owner of a delightful WFT named Winnie.
