Exploring Life & Business with Destiny Lanay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny Lanay.

Hi Destiny, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Whew! You came out the gate swinging… I’m Destiny Lanay. I am an 80s baby. I was born and raised in Houston. So Houston in the 80s but was raised in the 90s that should tell you a lot about my childhood. I was raised by my mom, as my biological dad died when I was 8, on what used to be my favorite holiday. Valentine’s Day and to top it off, his birthday is January 1. I also lost a very close cousin whose birthday is December 25. Talk about some serious holiday trauma… Ok, back to the topic.

I was raised with 3 siblings (who are my world), 2 sisters and 1 brother, in the heart of 3rd Ward. As a child, my love was dancing. As long as I had music, I could tune out the painful feelings and memories that I didn’t know how to verbally express. Dancing had been my love for as long as I remember. There was a video on a VH1 tape of my first birthday party and everyone kept saying “shake it boo” and I would dance. I was on the dance team in elementary. I was CoCaptain. I was a majorette in middle school, where I eventually became captain. I lost my love for dancing in high school when I got passed over for a position for captain on the dance team because I missed a game and practice due to my grandmother’s passing and her funeral being in East Texas.

My childhood wasn’t horrible and if it was, we didn’t know because we always had each other. I’m a HUGE family person. We do everything together and we gone celebrate each other no matter how small or how big. We rocking for each other. We don’t usually need a reason to hang out even outside of the holidays. I graduated from the best high school in Houston… Jack Yates (in my Big Moe voice).. From there, I went to the University of Houston. Now I’m currently working on my PhD in Advanced Human Behavior.

Outside of school, I’m a daughter, an aunt, a sister, a friend, a business owner, and so much more…

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

Smooth?! What’s that.. Nothing is ever smooth, right? If it is smooth, we as humans question it because we are so use to things “giving us a hard time” right… Life for me has not been a straight ride. If we talk about the last 2 years of my life, I’ll just name it “Rollercoaster”. I’ve had ups, downs, twists, turns, loops, and whatever other terms they related to a roller coaster ride. I’ve gotten married, divorced, been depressed, lost another very close cousin, lost a business due to vandalism, published a planner, started a new business, I’ve traveled, I’ve smiled, I’ve cried, I’ve partied, I’ve taken on full responsibility of taking care of my grandmother without any help…. Does that sound like a smooth ride to you?

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Destiny Lanay brand can be broken down into multiple sectors. The trucking company is on hold at the moment after the vandalism of my truck. I have my business management business where I either manage seasoned businesses, help start new businesses, help businesses get organized, or whatever they need help with to help their businesses become successful. I currently manage 11 businesses, not including my own. A special person helped me get into government contracts and we are getting out feet wet with that. If you have a business-related question, I’m literally the Shero for it. I also do personal credit and help build business credit. I have a planner being sold on Amazon and in Walmart called The Freedom Planner. It helps individuals find their freedom regardless if it is relational Freedom, financial freedom, or even self-related Freedom that they need.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t look at it as Luck. I say it’s God. I can’t do any of this by myself. Even when storms peak in, my two sayings are “It won’t rain forever” and “There is always a rainbow after the storm”. So no, I don’t say Luck. It’s all Big G helping ya girl out. I was raised in church so I know who to give the praise to for any good and bad that happens in my life.
