Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharde Thompson.
Sharde, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
On March 12th, 2021, it was the Friday before Spring Break. I was so happy that it was Friday because that week had been stressful. It was deadlines after deadlines. My day changed from happy to sad. This was the day when I knew that I had to leave my job. I felt like I wasn’t valued. I was a school teacher and a new mom at the time. Someone was supposed to cover my class, so that I could pump but no one showed up. I felt like they didn’t care (I’m pretty sure that wasn’t the case). I wanted to cry and I immediately started praying to god at the back of my classroom to help me find a way to make income and spend more time with my baby. The next morning around 3:00 am, I couldn’t sleep (I felt that was god trying to talk to me), so I started researching and that’s when Snap It HTX was born.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
By me not knowing anything about the Photo Booth industry, I had to learn along the way. This cost me money and probably clients. I was buying a lot of things that I thought I needed, I bought defective equipment but I learned from it all! Now, if I come across a problem, most of the time, I’m able to fix it or prevent it from happening because of all the challenges that I had to face when starting my business. The Photo Booth business is not just about photo booths. It’s about sales, customer service, marketing, etc. It is so much that you need to know to have a successful photobooth company.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Please really do your research before starting your business. Reach out to someone who is successful in the business that you’re interested in starting. Know why you’re starting your business. Lastly, have fun and faith!
