Life & Work with Lola J

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lola J.

Hi Lola J, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to find a way to make my impact on the world. I was always reminded as a child by my parents that the world is much bigger than myself. I wake up every day thinking about how to make my mark.

I grew up in southwest Houston and was raised by 2 hardworking Nigerians, who immigrated to the US for a better life. To my luck, Houston has a very large Nigerian population so I was able to be immersed in the culture, even though I was far from my roots. One major core value in my culture is hard work, which is what I’ve made sure to display in my everyday life. This kickstarted in high school when I was working hard to receive scholarships from universities so that my parents could know that their sacrifices would start to pay off once I got to college. I achieved that goal and now attend Texas State University with a plan to enter the medical field so that I can help those around me.

Entering the medical field is not where my story comes to the end! I find that having other enjoyable hobbies that could better my future is what makes life so thrilling. Enturpenueriship and content creation are 2 things that I have always been working hard on. Content creation especially has always been a love of mine, from a young age I always loved the spotlight and being on camera. It is one of the major things in my life that always just came naturally. As for entrepreneurship, I’ve always had an interest in business and aspired to run my own company. I look forward to growing my business venture “OUTSYDEBLVD”, along with improving my content creation and making a name for myself.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like many, my road was not as smooth as I would have hoped for. Entering college full-time after being online due to COVID for 2 years, along with trying to grow a business, and create content at the same time was truly harder than I imagined. Many other things have happened during this season of my life but I’m not sure I have enough space for that part of my life in this article. Although there have been bumps in the road, I am thankful for them. I feel every roadblock I have conquered was a lesson that made me stronger. My optimism is something that has always kept me going. I always remind myself that tomorrow is a new day, and there is always an opportunity to grow.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As of now, I am a full-time student, business owner, and content creator. I’ve been studying biology for 2 years now and have been truly enjoying the subject. My start-up “OUTSYDE BLVD” – a home decor brand is still growing. I create the designs myself and feel that every home should have a unique touch. Home decor these days can be so bland and mainstream, but I feel my brand can change the game of what people are adding to their homes.

There are numerous things I’m known for. I’ve been approached by many people saying they recognize me from my viral videos on TikTok, and a popular segment I did on the youtube channel jubilee, which to my surprise, generated more than 1.1 million views! I’m equally proud of both of these things, as they are achievements I worked very hard for. I feel my confidence, compassion, optimism, and uniqueness are what set me apart from most. The ability to walk into a room and immediately bring good energy is something I pride myself on.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I would have to give my family and friends most of the credit. My family has always embraced my dreams and helped get me to places I couldn’t get on my own. Looking back, I remember both of my parents taking me to cast calls/auditions just to help me reach my dreams. My parents made sure that I knew “knowledge is power” and that I should take every opportunity to learn something new. Overall they really showed me that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. They came to this country and built a great life for themselves. Little did I know that my father taking me to his business and letting me see the inner workings of how to operate a company, would leave such an impact. Watching my mother go from stay-at-home mom, to nurse then Doctor, and create her own practice was also very inspiring.

As for my friends, they are partly also the reason I am where I am today especially when it comes to getting my content creation seen. I found that every time I would post, the little things they did such as reshare, comment, and even like boosted my outreach. Having people rooting for you and being able to share your ideas with like-minded people that want you to succeed is something I think everyone needs.
