Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika De la Rosa.
Hi Erika, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When the Covid-19 began, in March 2020, my husband lost his job, we just moved into a house, his work is the only thing that sustained the home, thinking about how we were going to pay the bills, food and the rent was stressful, there was no work anywhere and everything in the world was difficult, so with what little we had in my wallet, I made a small investment in balloons, to offer BALLOONS TO GO! We started with Easter and we sold about 50 balloon bouquets of beautiful bunnies, we live in Friendswood, TX and I am surrounded by wonderful people, who have supported me from the beginning, the people love their town and the local support here. God has helped me at all times. Along the way I have learned techniques, lessons and I have learned a lot. This has become the economic support of my home, now we dream a lot about the future, but all this cannot be possible without my husband by my side, he is in charge of structures, curtains and deliveries, I am the one who makes the designs, It is a great blessing for me to be able to play with my creativity and do what I love, a job. I have a mother who prays for me at all times, last year my father gained wings for heaven, this has definitely marked my life very strongly, but it also encourages me to continue striving to achieve my goals. For this reason, each challenge, each bouquet of balloons, arches, garlands, etc., bring a little piece of love to my daddy, a man whom I will admire forever.
Would you say it’s been a smooth ride, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been easy, we learned a lot and we continue to learn. We have had to play with the weather changes, and now we know some secrets of the balloons, which make the trip easier for us, but always learning new things.
As you know, we are big fans of yours and your work. For our readers who may not be so familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
There are many EXTRAORDINARY balloon artists that I admire a lot, but if I am proud of something, it is that I am very hard-working and responsible, I am not afraid to get up at 3:00 am to do an assembly at 5:00 am, No, I don’t even speak 50% English, but I have learned a lot and I am also proud of that step. I always make my balloons with love, they have a story and a great meaning for me, I take each decoration very personally, as if it were made for me.
How do you think about happiness?
It makes me very happy every time we have a new setup!!! I look like a girl opening a Christmas present. But above all I love seeing the faces of the little ones when they receive a bouquet of balloons, or when my clients say WOW! That fills my soul.
