Community Highlights: Meet Adannia Aganekwu of Kingdom Tutors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adannia Aganekwu.

Hi Adannia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Houston, Texas and always had dreams of attending a top 25 college. I attended Georgetown University where I was Division 1 Heptathlete and majored in Psychology, with a concentration in Pre-Med. As you can imagine, I was busy! After graduation, I moved home to continue pursuing medical school and began tutoring as a “side hustle”. After two failed application attempts, I decided to pivot from my long-standing dream of becoming a physician. During this time, I met my now fiancé, who thought it was so interesting I just so happened to “tutor for fun” while people also paid me. A few months later, I yielded to what was already in front of me, and founded Kingdom Tutors; a private Tutoring Company based in Houston, TX for all ages and subjects. I firmly believe my faith has helped me overcome the shame I felt of not getting into medical school and placing aligning me on the path God had for me. In the beginning, it was hard, and I am so grateful for my fiancé and other friends/family who never let me give up on myself! Today, I gracefully balance a corporate job at a well-known athletic brand, scaling Kingdom Tutors and actively supporting the ministry of Dominion City Church of Houston!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It most definitely has been everything but smooth. When they say the Lord will use the least of them, I feel that was my story. If someone were to have told me that I would be a founder of Kingdom Tutors or actively working in ministry, there’s no way I would have believed it. I’ve overcome anxiety and ulcerative colitis along my journey, none of it has been easy. I think that’s the special sauce I have when it comes to tutoring. I openly share that everyone has a story and a journey. I teach my students to find their own God-given skills and amplify them in everything they do. We unlock what’s shining inside of them, even when they may not feel it or see it. It brings me much joy to help others discover their uniqueness and gifts.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Kingdom Tutors is a private tutoring company based in Houston, TX with the functionality of operating either in-person or online. We support students of all ages, from phonics to college, and also support ISEE, SAT/ACT prep. What’s unique about KT is we start by unlocking the special gifts in each student and cater each session based off the needs of the individual. No session looks the same, because no student is the same. We are most proud of having several students get a perfect score on their SAT/ACT and truly not only transforming students’ grades but transforming their mindset and character!

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
All support is welcome! One of my favorite offerings is a free SAT/ACT course for marginalized and underfunded areas. I have the vision to donate laptops to students entering into college who can’t afford them in the near future as well. All donations are welcome to support the funding of books and materials needed for these students. For all partnerships and collaboration inquiries pertaining to Kingdom Tutors, please use your preferred method of contact on our website.
