Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Jordan and Erika Manrique.
Brenda and Erika, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We met in 2018 doing hair in Sugarland, Texas. We worked together for about a year and eventually parted ways pursuing different job opportunities but always stayed in touch. Fast forward to 2020, Erika ended up joining Brenda at her job at the time doing eyelash extensions. We ended up working there for two years and realized it was something we really really loved and decided we were ready for a new step in growing our careers. Knowing we worked very well together and had developed a stronger friendship, we decided to take the plunge and open up a suite together in Friendswood, Texas.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We think our biggest challenge was leaving a commissioned-based salon and going into the unknown (starting a business) which definitely was a bit scary to us. A huge perk we have always had is that we support each other’s goals and visions. Either way, it was still a very nerve-wracking situation, but at the end of the day, it was something we had to accomplish. Other than that we are extremely grateful to say that it has been a smooth road.
We’ve been impressed with Astro Lash Studio, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are an eyelash extension salon. We specialize in eyelash extensions, eyelash lifting, eyebrow lamination, eyebrow tinting, and facial waxing. We like to say that we are inclusive and welcome anybody into our suite. Something we are most proud of brand-wise is being able to network with other lash artists and honestly just being able to meet new people and make connections with them. Another thing we are proud of doing is making people feel better about themselves and enhancing their natural beauty. We want everybody to know that we are here for any eyelash/brow needs and we are very excited to meet you!
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
We think social media is definitely key for networking, especially Instagram. It has definitely helped us connect with some very talented lash artists and brands. Even listening to podcasts (shoutout to @wednesdaythelasher + @lashanarchist) has shown us a whole new world of lashing, and has shown us so many new resources.
