Meet Candace Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Brown.

Candace, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m originally from Memphis, TN. I learned at the early age of 12 that I had a passion for doing glam. I would always practice doing my own hair and makeup. I then began to watch You Tube for makeup and hair to perfect my craft. I am self-taught. Although my career was in Insurance, when I moved to Houston in July of 2022 I wanted to expand on doing what I was passionate about. With the move being my new beginning, I began to focus on building my business from the ground up. I began to build clientele through StyleSeat. After a few months, I became a top pro stylist. I am continuing to expand my business and through networking, it has become very successful.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely was not a smooth road. I took a chance on love and relocated to Houston. I felt confident that everything would fall into place but instead, the relationship fell apart, I was unable to find a job in my career field with my experience, and I was in a new city with no family. I was determined that this would not be where my story would in. I knew I had the skills to pay the bills. I began to bartend and I became a mobile makeup artist and hairstylist.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m very artistic so I do it all. What you call a Jane of all trades. Not only do I do hair, makeup, and bartend, but I am also an artist and songwriter.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’m a spiritual person so I don’t believe in good luck or bad luck. I believe in blessings and lessons. I feel God is in us all and there is where our intuition comes from. Not following your intuition can cause you to have a lesson to learn or sometimes just when you think everything is falling apart it could be God’s way of putting everything together.
