Check Out Keelen Lewis’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keelen Lewis.

Hi Keelen, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I got my start as a performer in elementary but quickly strayed away from getting into sports. It wasn’t until I got in high school that I realized I wanted to be an actor. I did both football and acting during my first 3 years in high school until I made my choice to leave sports behind completely. My first lead role in a production by the name of, “A Lesson Before Dying.” This performance alone gave me the confidence to pursue acting full-time. I signed up with my agency BEAZ Talent agency after I graduated. Since then I’ve been auditioning for projects and also starting and appearing in independent films around the Houston area as well. My plan is to bring Hollywood to Houston. Starting with my future production company. I plan to start in the near future and end with fighting to get a studio built here later in my career. Anything to help more young artists and creatives in our city. Especially to inspire others letting them know that they can do whatever they put their minds to.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been smooth sailing as I’ve received plenty of no’s auditioning for projects on the mainstream side of acting. I’ve been close to booking one tv show role so far. It hasn’t discouraged me though. It only makes me want it more working harder every day to reach my goals. The same goes for my production company, I know I may not be the best writer or editor but I will always put my best foot forward. These struggles are only meant to make us better. And that’s the way I look at life and my career moving forward.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I pride myself on my acting. It’s what I’ve grown up doing and it’s always going to be my first love. Despite hearing no I know that if I keep putting in the time and effort, it’ll pay off. I’m known for my work ethic and how delicates I am with my craft. I take my career very seriously. I feel as though how I use my free time separates me from everybody else. That’s the tile I use to work on my weaknesses. I will sit and watch my films and critique myself just as I did playing football. I found that it helps me hone my abilities a bit more. I also recite lines for practice as I’m watching certain tv shows and films. I do this when I’m not taking acting classes to keep myself fresh and to just stay consistently practicing. I’m most proud of where I am now and the things I’m doing to get to where I want to be, cause I see myself progressing in stages. It’s more about the journey for me versus the destination.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is seeing others happy. Bringing joy to the world through my projects is why I love doing what I do. As long as I’m able to help make someone smile no matter what I’m doing that’s all the satisfaction I’ll ever need. I want to be able to use my platform to help uplift others. This is where my happiness derives from.
