Check Out Viviana Renteria’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Viviana Renteria. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Viviana Renteria is a ColomboMexican (Colombian and Mexican) performer based in NYC. She graduated from The American Musical and Dramatic Academy on 2022, and now she is striving to follow her dream as a performer.

Growing up in Bogotá, Colombia, she started her performer career trying to take advantage of most of the school productions, festivals and competitions that were available to her. Her discipline took her to innovate in her high school by creating and organizing the first talent show in her school, a tradition that has been kept ever since. However, her bigger step was when she decided to move to NYC by herself.

After graduating from the conservatory program at the American Music and Dramatic Academy, she participated in productions such as “In the Heights” by the Light Opera of New Jersey and the original production of “The Conference of Birds ” by The Winniepesaukee Playhouse. She has also had the opportunity to perform in NYC Cabarets “Lets Broadway” at the Times Square´s Laurie Beechman Theatre and “Bound For Broadway” at the Triad Theatre.

She also enjoys composing her own music and uploading covers to her social media.  She is currently working to release her first EP and continue creating her path through the music industry.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Taking this journey has definitely been a challenge. Of course finances, cultural differences, language and just being apart from family and friends have been a struggle. However, I believe the biggest challenge has been to stay persistent and focused on my dream without letting all the other problems overtake me. While I was in college, there was an external source that kept me online, but after I graduated, it is all on me. As always, there are good and bad days… With a career that is so unstable and variable, it is hard to keep the motivation after hundreds of auditions and no improvement. I will admit, there the bad days when trying to create a life and a future on top of following your dream seems a little too much. Days where escaping seems like a solution.

Regardless of how bad these bad days are; the moment I stand on stage all of this fades away. It doesn´t matter how big or small or how long ago have I been since I last did it, the electricity that goes through my body when I´m on stage is indescribable. I only need a few seconds to remember the love that brought me where I am and what I want to achieve. Fortunately for me, this not only happens when I perform, but also when I see any kind of performance, and when I feel the magic that they create.

I will not say that everything is resolved, and that I just need to perform. It is the idea that these reassure me of what I am doing and give me the strength to overcome whatever comes.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Singer, actress, and dancer. My specialty is music theater where I am able to do two things: 1. Transform into different personalities, lifestyles, cultures and lessons and 2. To bring the audience through a journey and experience a whole life story with them by using not only music but my most precious property which is my voice. To be able to transmit and transport to different places with my voice is what I want to always do.

But there’s another side of Viviana as well. There is the side where I do use my voice to transmit, but I also incorporate myself. I compose my own music, and am currently working on releasing my own music and taking exploring this hidden part of mine.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I think the most surprising thing is that I compose. I have composed several songs, but kept them only in a notebook. Definitely, exploring this new area will be a surprise to many, but I hope it will be one of the good surprises.
