Hidden Gems: Meet Racheal Felder of Hissy Chick

Today we’d like to introduce you to Racheal Felder.

Hi Racheal, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey in the food industry started at only 14 as my very first job was as a hostess in a local restaurant. I veered in and out of the industry during my teen years. In 2011 my parents opened a restaurant in their home town and I helped them with that location. In 2012 we opened a location in Tomball. With that came many, many struggles. That location closed in 2014 and from that point forward owning a Food Truck was my biggest goal. I stayed in the industry until January 2021. I sought out to create what eventually became Hissy Chick a year later in 2022. In March 2022, we started as a POP UP. Like literally a pop-up tent where we cooked our 3 Sandwich options, offering a variety of gourmet cookies and our hand-squeezed blue sparkle lemonade. We did various events while our trailer was being built. Thanks to my AMAZING Husband who came in clutch to help make the final payment we picked up our Food Trailer in July. Our calendar filled rather quickly and we expanded our menu slightly. My husband ended up joining me full time and we never looked back. We are the BEST Husband & Wife Duo ever. Don’t get me wrong it can be really awesome and very trying lol but we make it work and we absolutely LOVE what we do!!! Serving others has always been something I LOVE but getting to do that through food makes it the absolute BEST job ever.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh, I failed a lot! Unloading and loading everything to cook under a pop-up tent most definitely has its struggles! One particular situation was pulling the trailer home after a late-night event with another event scheduled the next morning. Somewhere along the way I lost our commercial GRILL 🤦🏼‍♀️ I was stopped at a train when a young man came knocking on my window letting me know I lost something a few miles back. Once I pulled over and got out, I called my husband its gone!! Thank goodness for Home Depot as we had to go purchase a new grill the next morning for that event.

Finalizing recipes was also an entire thing lol my poor kids tasted some of the best & worst dishes; however, I think they really enjoyed it all.

It’s most definitely been an adventure but one I would never change.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a mobile Food Trailer that focuses on special and private events. We don’t have a location we set up at daily so we are always on the move! We post our schedule every Sunday on social media so that our Chick Fans can schedule to get their Chick Fix!!!

We specialize in Blackened Chicken Sandwiches we offer them in 5 different styles. Fried chicken is most definitely a fav food so offering a Blackened Chick breast really sets us apart and allows us to serve a next-level sandwich option! All sandwiches are served on an Italian Sweet Sourdough bun with really elevates the flavor!!!

We typically book out about 60-90 days in advance. So if you looking for something different for your next event, reach out we would absolutely LOVE to serve you!!

What matters most to you?
FAMILY! HC has given us the opportunity to focus more on our family. We have our boys and even sometimes the girls on the truck with us. HC has been able to truly help show our little the value of a dollar, work ethic, customer service and so much more! These are all real-life skills they can apply in the future and we get to do it all together!!!
