Today we’d like to introduce you to Bethel (aka Dr. B-Bay) Ozumba.
Hi Bethel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My passion for music began at the age of 11, and I wrote my first song in 7th grade. During college, I developed a love for dentistry, as I was fascinated by the hundreds of dental procedures that can be performed in the oral cavity. After graduating from dental school in 2020, I worked for corporate dental companies for a year & half before deciding to open my own practice.
I was inspired to do this due to the lack of African American representation in the field of dentistry and the institutional racism I faced while working in corporate dentistry. My practice officially opened in June of 2022, while I have also continued my hip-hop music career. God has blessed me with this opportunity and I am thankful for it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been an easy journey.
I encountered many obstacles and struggles, such as my business partners unexpectedly leaving and having to learn how to run a dental practice from the ground up. Negotiating contracts was particularly challenging, especially when it came to leasing a space for my office. I also had to neglect my music at times to focus on in ins and outs of starting and operating a dental practice.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am the owner of Premier Dental Club. Premier Dental Club is a dental practice that prioritizes comprehensive care and patient comfort. We specialize in general and cosmetic dentistry and take pride in utilizing the latest in dental technology, such as the iTero digital scan system, artificial intelligence CBCT machine, Velscope oral cancer screening device, and digital dental lasers.
We understand that visiting the dentist can be a stressful experience, and strive to create a welcoming and understanding atmosphere where patients feel heard and comfortable. Our goal is to be recognized for our comprehensive treatment options and patient education, making us stand apart from other dental practices. At PDC, we set ourselves apart by providing our patients with the latest in dental technology, as well as a comfortable and understanding atmosphere.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is being able to live life on my own terms, while also providing quality health care and music that nourishes the soul. I believe that music has the power to heal and improve overall well-being, and I strive to use it as a tool to help people feel better.
Health care is also incredibly important to me, as it is essential to ensuring that everyone has access to the care they need and deserve. That is why I strive to provide the highest quality of care in my practice.
