Meet DeAnna Daniels of Aim Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to DeAnna Daniels.

Hi DeAnna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I am originally from a small village in Louisiana. I completed my undergraduate studies at Southeastern Louisiana. I initially was a nursing major because I’ve always had the desire to help and serve others. After Louisiana was hit by a devastating hurricane (Hurricane Katrina) I changed my major. I obtained my B.S. degree in Communication Sciences & Disorders and started working as an SLP-Assistant in Louisiana before moving to Houston, TX. I worked for a couple of years as an SLP-Assistant in multiple settings which included home health, schools, and clinics. After many years of being limited in the ways I could contribute to my community, I decided to go back to school.

Obtaining a higher education allowed me to increase my scope of practice. I received my master’s degree in Communicative Sciences from Eastern New Mexico University. Upon completing my M.S. degree, I have had to opportunity to work and take on roles that weren’t accessible to me before. I have worked at a Skilled Nursing Facility, held the position as the Lead SLP in a local school district, and start my own private practice, Aim Therapy, PLLC.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say the road was smooth or a struggle, but it definitely was long. If I could turn back the hands of time I wouldn’t have waited so long to return to school.

However, I do appreciate the things I have learned along the way. I think it’s very beneficial when you can learn from others’ mistakes and make the road you’re traveling a little less bumpy. Going back to school after having children was hectic at times, but we survived. My family has been very supportive and we’re proud of where we are today.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Aim Therapy is a pediatric home health company located in Tomball, TX. We provide our patients and their families with the care and support that they need to get better. We specialize in working with children and in understanding the needs of our patients and the dynamics of the entire family to provide a greater level of care.

Aim has recently started contracting with local school districts to offer educational-based speech therapy services. We have also started accepting insurance which allows us to serve more people in our community. The services we provide can be in-person or virtually. At Aim Therapy, we truly strive to meet the needs of everyone.

Networking and finding a mentor can have a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I recommend that one surround themselves with like-minded individuals. Don’t be afraid to speak out and make connections wherever you go.

You never know who may be of a great resource for you now, in the future, and vice versa. I am a strong believer in “do unto others as you’d have others do unto you.” That has always worked well for me. People are more receptive to the “team” approach versus the “give me.” Place yourself in environments where you can connect with individuals that are where you want to be.
