Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Godfrey.
Hi Josh, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started in musical theatre when I was 13 years old and did it for about 9 years. I was in the middle of a rehearsal for one of the musicals when this girl in the cast saw me dancing/practicing. She came up to me and told me about a company she worked for called HoustonHeroHeadquarters. She told me that I should go interview with them and work for that company, so I interviewed, got the job, and was working there for about 3 years. That company got me connections to other similar companies, and I started to see how these small businesses were run by other people and how much business there were getting.
It really got me thinking if they can start from scratch from as little as they did why can’t I? So I bought my own materials, and costumes, and made business cards. From there I have been with my cosplay business booking all around Houston trying to bring kids’/believers’ superhero dreams to life! I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
At first, it wasn’t super hard as far as getting started. The hardest part right now s getting my brand/business out to the world. It’s been SUPER hard trying to advertise such a small business and I can’t grow the business until I have clients/customers to build from
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a professional dance instructor at The Delicate Rose School of Arts and Intempo dance teaching contemporary, hip hop, tap, Acro, jazz, and ballet! I started dancing only 2 years ago when I was cast in my first-ever paid show! I realized how much dance can do for a person and I fell in love with the type of training that was required for dance. I meet some really important and amazing people along the way who got me more bookings and opportunities for doing what I love professionally.
Now I am proud to say I am the founder and owner of groove up entertainment who’s provided not only dance but cosplay entertainment all around! I think what sets me apart from others who be my consistent hunger to learn more and never stop pushing for more! I believe no matter how high or popular you are it’s always important to understand god has so much more for you and your journey and it can only benefit you and others around you to keep climbing that ladder.
So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most is the people I love are taken care of!
Whether that be my family, friends, employees, partners, bosses, etc. without that I know not only they can grow with what I have to offer/help but they can also do more for others and feel comfortable in the space they live in.
Pricing:
- Cosplay characters $200 per hour
- Grinch character $250 per hour
- Adding each additional hour after the first is only $150
- Dancers $100 per minute in song per dancer
- Photographer $150 editing optional $70
